Financial Accountability Terminates Gospel for Asia’s Membership

October 2, 2015. 22 Comments

by: Warren Throckmorton

Just today the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability posted notice that they have terminated Gospel for Asia from ECFA membership due to failure to comply with multiple ECFA standards. GFA was a charter member of the ECFA, having joined in 1982

Sister,

We encourage saints not to be re-posting articles by bloggers like Warren Throckmorton who in many ways are strongly speculating and trying to dig up dirt and accusations on those he dislikes or come into his radar. The Bible warns very much about slander, accusation, gossip and mis-information. There is also many stances on pro-homosexual or other sexual orientations on this blog, we do not endorse this or think its a christian viewpoint.

I have not seen this notice on the ECFA's website and if its true there could be other reasons behind it, etc.

I do not know anything, but MinistryWatch stated last year that GFA lack of transparency is warranted given persecution in India. They are a strict watchdog group. They almost never say such things. Throckmorton makes hay in making controversy. Sometimes he is right. Sometimes he is just a sounding brass.

I have read many of the testimonies and comments connected to the Throckmorton articles and there is something much more serious going and it's not just witch hunting or liberal antagonism. There is something called GFA Diaspora which will make you weep if you read the testimonies. The testimonies are not bitter nor are most from novices. I write with great heaviness of heart that Jesus Christ is blasphemed. The pain is so strong from what I have read, it is hard even to compose anything.

Unfortunately there is much more to this than a single bloggers animosity towards
the leadership of GFA. The evidence for massive financial shenanigans and misappropriation of donations is getting difficult to ignore.

Here is the web page from the ECFA terminating GFA and the reasons given:

Terminated for failure to comply with Standard 2 Governance,
Standard 3 Financial Oversight,
Standard 4 Use of Resources,
Standard 6 Compensation-Setting and Related-Party Transactions,
Standard 7.1 Truthfulness in Communications,
Standard 7.2 Giver Expectations and Intent

Thank you sister Carmine for sharing that, I did not find that page or information when I looked. Let us be in prayer for Gospel for Asia and those leaders involved.

Carmine is a common Italian name for a male that includes me.
I think you were thinking Carmen.
Concerning GFA. Praying is good and hopefully these people will repent and as a result bring forth the fruit of repentance.

Brother, I apologize for that mistake. Amen towards prayer.

These verses came to mind when I read this thread:

Proverbs 6:16-19 King James Version (KJV)

16 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

19 A false witness that speaketh lies,

--> and he that soweth discord among brethren.

And here is he word of the Lord that came to me a few weeks ago

Proverbs 11New King James Version (NKJV)

Dishonest scales are an abomination to the Lord,
But a just weight is His delight.
2 When pride comes, then comes shame;
But with the humble is wisdom.
3 The integrity of the upright will guide them,
But the perversity of the unfaithful will destroy them.

Especially verse 3

Integrity denotes structural wholeness through and through. Void of any impure mixture that would contaminate and weaken and ultimately destroy .
Don't leave home without it.

Lysa, what is the intended purpose of this post? I have seen a few money-negative posts recently on SI and I am not sure that any benefit can come from airing this type of concern.

It is sad news indeed, but we know that many of the OT saints who have done mighty works failed at some point.
We need to pray, the Lord can even turn failures around and imo only "those without sin alone shall now cast the first stone "!

Koheleth asked:
Lysa, what is the intended purpose of this post? I have seen a few money-negative posts recently on SI and I am not sure that any benefit can come from airing this type of concern.

This is NOT a money-negative post, I aired this concern because I would want to know if I gave money and supported this ministry.

Koheleth, do you remember in 2 Samuel 16 where Shimei cursed David as he and his men rode by and one of the men wanted to cut off Shimei's head? David said, "What does this have to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah? If he is cursing because the Lord said to him, ‘Curse David,’ who can ask, ‘Why do you do this?’”¯” 2 Samuel 16.10

Maybe the benefactor is K.P, and maybe through all this bad press stands God trying to get his attention. I don't know but I will pray for him, the Lord brought me back where I need to be and if He did it for me, He can do it for anyone!

God bless,
Lisa

Awhile back I read some of the stories of some who complained of GFA financial conduct, excess, dishonesty, etc. I don't know how true the complaints were nor what sort of heart they came from.

Financial supporters of GFA should prayerfully consider whether to continue giving to them. I trust the Lord to guide honest seekers of Himself. We know the old saying "where there is smoke, there is a fire". Well, yeah, but sometimes the fire is small and still generates a lot of smoke. From the outside, we just do not have adequate information on the size, source and nature of whatever fire or ember there may be in those decision makers' lives at GFA. It remains a matter of prayer and watchfulness in our own minds and spirits. It is important that in due diligence we not neglect the tendency within us to be critics, to mortify it so that any evil actually done is not multiplied.

Ministries like GFA can and have in very recent times repented and continued well after what would otherwise be ruinous actions by some leaders.

The witness in America of GFA is important, IMO. It represents, maybe, a unique call to support indigenous mission in the world's most populous and unreached area. The stark contrast of American avarice to the image of leanness in GFA that we have come to believe is worth protecting if it remains true. Let us be slow to react to reports that are not yet fully verified as we seek the wisdom and voice of God about GFA. The reports may well be true and I am not saying "stick our heads in sand for a while until we feel better". Watch and pray is all I am urging us to do.
