Peddling the Word of God - Mike Fuselier

A
AbideinHim Oct 23, 2015

Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, as those sent from God. (2 Cor. 17)

This is a very eye opening scripture written by Paul. First of all, Paul said this is not a little problem but a large one because MANY are doing this. What were they doing? Paul said they PEDDLE the Word of God for their own profit.

This word translated Peddle is used only once in the whole Bible and is very interesting. "Kapelos " is the Greek word. What it means is someone who would take a product (especially wine) and change it for marketing purposes!
Some Bible translations use the word "Corrupt the Word of God". But the idea is that they would dilute or add something that was not the original for "Peddling Purposes" to make it more appealing or more likely someone would buy it!

This was done for their OWN Profit! Paul says many are doing this! Nothing has changed from Paul's day... If anything thing, Peddlers have gotten worse!

Any system or person who takes away from the Word of God things that not accepted by the masses...or adds to the word of God their own church doctrine or traditions of men so that people will be more willing buyers of their brand are PEDDLERS! And yes they make a PROFIT.... You can always follow the money! Some take "vows of poverty" and yet have more money than the biggest corporations in the World!

These Peddlers are selling a word (they always collect some kind of fee) that is "corrupted" "watered down" "adulterated" "changed" and many times the corruption is so devious that it actually poisons the buyers.

In Galatians 1, Paul says anyone who "preaches another Gospel" is cursed and people should Flee from them.

If you are serious about your salvation, it is imperative that you make sure that you are not buying "Peddled" words from a Profit! And find a Real Prophet like Paul says who "on the Contrary speak before God with SINCERITY, because they are SENT from God." Sincerity because they speak the PURE word of God, nothing changed, nothing diluted, nothing added...........

The Whole Truth....and Nothing But The Truth... And the Best News is this INCREDIBLE TRUTH IS FREE!!!!

Blessings, mike

Religion is big business that has made many rich and others very poor.

For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the (religious) merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies. (Rev 18:3)

The word for "corrupt" (as in peddle/corrupt the word of God) is kapeleuo. Kapelos means "huckster", to retail (the word of God).

καπηλεύω
kapēleuō
kap-ale-yoo'-o
From κάπηλος kapēlos (a huckster); to retail, that is, (by implication) to adulterate (figuratively): - corrupt.

One of the most obvious "corrupters" of the Word of God is the false church in Rome, and in most countries where they "peddle" their wares, the people are very poor, superstitious and ignorant and yet there are so many corrupters, peddling God's Word in Protestantism, too. A corrupted word leaves the people thirsting and starving while the peddlers wax rich on the outside but are dead man's bones on the inside.

Corrupting the Word of God, dumbs down the hearer and leaves them spiritually emaciated.

The tongue of the sucking child cleaveth to the roof of his mouth for thirst: the young children ask bread, and no man breaketh it unto them. They that did feed delicately are desolate in the streets: they that were brought up in scarlet embrace dunghills. (Lam 4:4-5)

Sometimes I wonder if we on this forum should collectively find a day and time together wherever we are to repent for our communities. If they won't repent themselves, should we not fast and seek God for their repentance? I'm wondering aloud, here.

But, the post reminds me of a scene from the movie, "O Brother Where Are Thou?:

Everett McGill: What kind of work you do, Big Dan?

Dan Teague, bible salesman: Sales, Mr McGill, sales! What do I sell? The truth, every blessed word of it. From Genesee down to Revelations. Yes, the word of God, which, let me say, there's **** good money in during these times of woe and want. People want answers, and Big Dan sells the only book that's got 'em. And what do you do, you and your, uh, tongue-tied friend?

McGill: We, uh...We're adventurers, sir, pursuing an opportunity, but we're open to others as well.

Big Dan: I like you. I'm gonna propose you a proposition.
You cover my bill for now, get your dinner wrapped picnic-style and we'll retire to more private environs, where I'll reveal how to make vast amounts of money in the service of God Almighty. ....

Lord, turn us toward You in prayer, and grant what we ask, that men will turn from the darkened vision of self-serving self-righteousness and surrender to you with hearts rent before You.

I would join in fasting and prayer for my community if others should choose to join together on a certain day. Even spread out across the globe it would be where two or three are gathered in prayer...Thanks brother's and sisters

Amen brother! Good word!! There is always a hidden agenda with these Profits.

If we value our soul and want to protect the freedom of the Spirit, we do need to find a real Prophet like Paul (but there are real ones out there but they are not advertising themselves as one, that's for sure!), but we do need to get into the word of God and press into the WORD because there are dark days ahead and we will need the Lamp unto our feet.

God bless,
Lisa

Carter Conlon in one of his recent Tuesday night prayer meetings called for people to Twitter out (or call) brethren to meet on street corners at a certain time and pray for an area - a flash mob of prayer!!! :)

I am asking bro Greg for permission to -- or if he will himself -- petition posters and users of SI to select a day(s) to jointly fast and pray for this very pointed purpose: that God will awaken the community of each one of us who participates, that He will raise a vocal and audible prophetic alarm in each of our communities for the church to repent of ungodliness and of lack of life-or-death seriousness about the things of God, and that believers and churches will respond in obedience to that prophetic call, and that wherever repentance lacks that God will speak to any remnant in such a community and draw the few together there into fellowship with one another in Him.

Edit:

Sorry to edit, but I want to add a couple of things, please.

First, since I've posted this already and it has been seen, I want to apologize to bro Greg. I realized that if he decides in his wisdom that this isn't appropriate that it might cause someone to think, "Well what does this guy have against prayer?". That would be grossly wrong. If Greg says "let's not do that here", then trust God that He knows what He's doing and trust that I don't!! I'm just stumbling and bumbling along, and I'm afraid I was unfair to our brother in the way I made this request. That's manipulation and not at all what I intended. Please forgive me.

Second, an encouragement. Regardless of all of the above in terms of an organized thing, know this: your body speaks to your head to tell your head what it needs. Your brain doesn't just "know" consciously what your body needs all the time. God designed our bodies to signal our brains with pain, shortness of breath, hunger pangs, fever, and other stimuli. Our bodies and brains work together. Likewise, although God DOES know what we need all the time, He is the One who has said we are His body and each one a member of it. He has designed us to call out to Him with the assurance that He will take care of us with even more attention to our cries than we give to our own bodies' needs. I can't cure my pains sometimes; I endure them sometimes. We all do. Likewise, God will not necessarily relieve our cries in the ways we ask but will help us endure in patient, loving faith until the redemption of our bodies. But, more importantly to the point here, God may not answer our cries for repentance for our communities but He may, in some other way known only to Him, respond with something other and greater that redounds to His glory before men. All the same, His response IS His ministry to His own body, and we eagerly receive it in faith.

I believe we will see some repent if we join in prayer. I believe God has a remnant of people even where I am that is so full of religiosity and self-righteous, presumptuous and riotous living. If only a remnant, then I want to be united with that remnant and I want them to be united with me and my family so we can nourish and encourage each other for the times.

Thank you for your humility in re-writing what you did. I did not notice this till today and my wife brought it to my attention. This is certainly something we can consider.

We have done prayer and fasting days in conjunction with when Times Square Church did them in the past.

I see no problem in this. As you mentioned it could be good to select a week timeframe and then ask saints to choose one day in that week to fast and pray for revival, repentance of churches, and for God to gather together saints of like-mind for fellowship.

Please go ahead and start a thread dedicated to this with the dates clearly in the subject. And perhaps post a reminder or encouragement each day for saints to stay committed to doing this.

Let me know if I can help serve you or if you want me more active in making the post. You can email me at: sermonindex@gmail.com
