Sadly today many take verses out of context and ignore the truth that was meant to be revealed.
This verse had nothing to do with us having guns today, it was to do with Christ at that time.
This is what Jesus said.
Luk 22:35 And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing.
Luk 22:36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.
Luk 22:37 For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.
Jesus said NOW this means at this present time, he did not say from now on, this is clearly confirmed in the next verse.
Luk 22:38 And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.
Jesus said that the swords that they had were enough, they were enough for what was about to happen, Jesus was going to fulfil prophecy and show that Love is what is needed not anger and war.
In verse 37 Jesus confirmed again what the sword was for and what was about to be fulfilled, Jesus said "that which is written must be accomplished in me the rest of his words in verse 37 were prophesied in Iaiah 53
Isa 53:11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
Isa 53:12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
Jesus was the sacrifice for sin.
But what was the purpose of the sword, I will show you.
Luk 22:47 And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.
Luk 22:48 But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?
Luk 22:49 When they which were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword?
Luk 22:50 And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.
Luk 22:51 And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.
Why would Jesus tell them to take swords to attack and then he actually heals the one that was attacked, Jesus was showing Grace to one that attacks him and that Grace is what is needed.
But there is more.
Mat 26:52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
Mat 26:53 Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
Mat 26:54 But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?
Jesus said that they were to put the sword away, whoever takes the sword shall perish by the sword. Jesus stated that he did not need the defence of man, he has 12 Legions of Angels.
Jesus was fulfilling scripture by presenting himself as a living sacrifice and man will not get in the way by battling in the flesh.
It is not about us having weapons it is about the Grace, Mercy and Love of God, we already have the sword of the Spirit which is more powerful than the mere sword of man.
I am not against Guns I am for the Armour of God.
Our battle is not flesh, it is Spiritual.
