sermonindex Jan 21, 2016

Half of teenagers and nearly three-quarters of young adults come across pornography at least monthly, and both groups on average consider viewing pornographic images less immoral than failing to recycle.

Those are among the findings of a survey of 2,700 Americans released Tuesday (Jan. 19) by Josh McDowell Ministry and the Barna Group. McDowell Ministry and the Internet accountability software provider Covenant Eyes paid approximately a quarter-million dollars to commission the online survey, McDowell told Baptist Press. The study also found porn use is on the rise among young women and that 14 percent of senior pastors surveyed "currently struggle with using porn."

McDowell, a Christian author and speaker, said he is most concerned about the findings related to teens and young adults. ...

"The LORD saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time." - Genesis 6:5

"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves... lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God." - 2 Timothy 3:1-2, 4

Heart breaking truth. 14 pct of sr pastors reported viewing, meaning more who did would not admit it. And who can blame them? God help us. We ARE proof of the Bible's truth, accuracy and infallibility, and its inspiration from God. We DO love ourselves and pleasure. Everything the bible says of us is true. How can we then deny it?

It seems the main problem is easy accessibility. Bible characters would have struggled with porn if they had the same access we have today. They certainly struggled with lusts of the flesh.

So even ready access isn't the main issue- it's a heart issue and succumbing to this temptation is unfortunately exceedingly easy these days.

Yes, sir. That is right. If we lived in a culture where females walked around unclothed all the time as they went about daily life, in time (?) a diminished response to visually triggered lusts would settle in. But, it would only shift to another form. Who among us can rightly identify the forms and effects of sensual driven lust and sexual sin among native cultures where "parts" are often left uncovered? We know those sins exist there and they are no more benign than they are here.

Satan is clever. He has worked with us to make porn just ubiquitous enough to invade freely, just veiled enough behind thin electronic walls to be invited privately. It is a perfect concoction of corruption. Men walk with a veneer of holiness and are infected with porn devotion. We are guilty. I am not one with a lifetime of clean hands in this regard. I was smitten with it for a time. I won't pretend. But, I will say this. Men live in that devotion because we do not like to retain God in our thoughts. We choose the god of this world order. The true God, the Lord Jesus Christ, sets men free indeed. We can, and some do, walk in a purity of heart that is not from ourselves. We can walk with God because He does His work in us. We do not have to live in bondage.

I ask God to deliver those whom He has chosen from their/our devotion to ourselves in every hidden, subtle, secret way. We have to put down all self preservation and any right to claim any sort of satisfaction, any right to fulfill even our most noble and legitimate needs, at Calvary and leave it there.
