Are there any good sermons that talk about this topic?

"the love of money is the root of all evil."

As a small business owner there is this constant battle in the spirit and in the flesh to strive and want to make more money, so.. I'm processing through this battle.

Thanks, Doug

This can be a very enriching topic that we could all profit from. Some of the worst offenders are the "religious leaders" in christendom. Why?

agree in TOTAL with that Scriptural Reality, but dear Doug, your family must be fed, God bless your labors in that love, He KNOWS your heart.

Hi Doug,
I also am small business owner and know exactly what you mean. It can be confusing to some when they are taught that saving money is bad and akin to laying up treasures on earth. Those who have no understanding of business fail to mention that particularly seasonal businesses, MUST store up capital to fund the ongoing operation of the business. Savings are also needed to fund business upgrades and expansion.

The love of money is a problem for many - even those who have little of it. I could write a book about how I allowed greed to influence my early years of being in business and how it all came crashing down around me. God allowed me to fail big time to teach me to not be greedy and to not put my confidence in money.

Owning a business can be very worthwhile but like anything we must never allow business to become our "god". This is a very tough thing to pull off and requires constant ongoing soul searching and prayer to remain broken and focused on His Kingdom.

I read a wonderful book many years ago called "God Owns My Business" by Stanley Tam who started United Plastics Corp.

Here is the video of his life if you don't want to by the book...very inspiring!!!

I also highly recommend R.G. LeTourneau's "Mover of Men and Mountains".

My dad told me if you cant be happy without money, you will never be happy with it.
Money can feed our desires, that's why we love it.

Matthew 19:23-24(NIV)
23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven.
This version of that scripture says it is 'hard' but not impossible.
I take my hat off to all those godly people who are following the Lord and running businesses, it must be difficult. This world has so much to offer that money really can buy you happiness, it just cant buy you joy.
We only love money when we want it for our comfort, it finances comfort and we are designed and created to experience comfort and pleasure. We either get that from our Lord or we get it from the world.
Im glad to hear you have the battles going on Doug, Paul talked about the battles he had in regards to the flesh wanting to do what the spirit doesn't want to do. The fact you even have these battles and struggles is testimony that you truly belong to Jesus.

Luke 6:24-26(NIV)
24
"But woe to you who are rich,
for you have already received your comfort.
The above scripture is referring to those who spend riches on comfort. That should answer a few questions.
