Men Around the World Are Giving Up Porn, and It's Because of This...

sermonindex Apr 2, 2016

With 68% of Christian men viewing pornography on a regular basis, the church is in desperate need for something to help men understand what they are up against. Already, 300,000 men have found a solution that is kick-starting their journey toward sexual integrity. The Conquer Series is a six-disc cinematic DVD series for men, which uses war analogies to help men understand the battle they're facing. Dr. Ted Roberts, host of the Conquer Series, has helped thousands of men find freedom. Take your first step towards freedom and order the Conquer Series today!

Discover more at conquerseries.com.

*Jeff's added - Some will say, "but those aren't 'real christians" & site scriptures that real Christians don't sin. Well, while real blood bought believers in Christ do overcome & don't continue in sin all their days, it should also be said that REAL born again believers can/do struggle with lust/porn. There is freedom & victory in Christ, but that doesn't mean these often lifelong struggles don't require a focused, non-instantaneous spiritual battle for the chains to be broken. I am living proof & I know many other Christian men who struggled likewise. May God use this series (& other Good, Biblical ones) to set His men free from this bondage through the power of His Word to be overcomers, leaders, & pure & holy vessels into honor in His church!

Steve Gallagher's PureLife Ministries is another Good one & their are others too, but my heart/point is that if you consistently find yourself falling cyclically (or non-stop) in the areas of lust/porn, do not play around with it. Like Phineas, the OT priest of Obedience, go straight at this with a spear & drive it through the heart of this sin once and for all. Like Samuel did Agag & chop it to pieces (not like Saul who made excuses & didn't deal with it completely because he made place for idolatry to remain).

One of the most damaging things to any christian bound by a besetting sin, especially pornography etc., is to give them the impression that "real christians don't sin" and "maybe they are unsaved". It places an unbearable bondage of works and a "just try harder" mindset that only enslaves them more. I couldn't get free of this kind of sin until Jesus showed me freedom by faith, throwing away my own efforts and "victories" and trusting Him to cleanse me and accept me EVEN IF I FAILED. True obedience operates by love.

For those whom just do not have the will power to overcome such strongholds, I would highly recommend Michael Pearls : "Sin no more" series

He also has done a series on addiction and the Brain, (I have only read some articals about it), He shows how scientist have discovered that the brains of people like homosexuals and porno lookers grow differently than those whom are not given over to such behavior. Scientist are actually able to recognize from the physical structure of yor brain if you involve yourself in such behaviours.

these can be found at the 'no greater joy' website

No one has the willpower to conquer any sin permanently. If you do it in your own power, something else will just take its place. Even if you could conquer all sin by willpower alone, God will not accept it. Look to Jesus for victory.

Pornography is from the pit of Hell, against all that is godly. I welcome anything that helps men find freedom from it. However, LUST is the real root of the problem.

A lustful thought that is not cast away, and lingered on will produce a powerful release of a brain chemical called dopamine. It is primarily this chemical that creates the addiction.

I believe that the Almighty Saviour can certainly deliver from such addictions in an instant, BUT in his sovereignty and wisdom does not always do so, as there is often much learning in the process of withdrawal, detoxing from addictions, whatever they be.

There is a massive Internet group, of non-believers turning away from porn and m*****bation, if you search NoFap.

May the Lord lead his people in righteousness.

I'm glad this topic came up on the forum, it's not an easy one to discuss publicly because of the shame and guilt the enemy wants to bring.

I may want to start a new thread on this topic, but about "overcoming sin", and maybe this is a deep theology study I need to do further.

The topic is "does God do it or we?" when we are "overcoming" sin and also with repentance.

Let's use a few examples; "I'm trying to stop looking at porn", "I'm trying to stop stealing", "I'm trying to stop lying", "I'm trying to stop hating my brother"... alot of these sins we try to "overcome" we are told we need to repent of, but how do we get the strength and ability to defeat the enemy? Is it us? Do we do it on our own strength, or is it God who does it? Where is the blame? (this is not an accusation towards God here).

How do we "overcome" sin in our lives, Is it more will power or is it God who does it in our lives? This is a debate I'm having with someone, including self. Thanks.

The conquer series actually goes into this as well. Neurologists say the brain of a porn addict & a heroin addict look the same upon medical examination (like IN a CT Scan/MRI or whatever)

Fundamentally, it is not a "porn epidemic" (particularly among the Christian community), but an epidemic of gospel illiteracy.

I've shared this on SermonIndex before - here's Dustin Horstmann's testimony on how God freed him from lust and pornogrpahy:

Part 1: http://bit.ly/2fD8AmH

Part 2: http://bit.ly/2kgFOxg

He also once wrote: "The fact is, much focus on sin can be veiled idolatry of self. We keep looking to ourselves for something that can only come from Christ (forgiveness, righteous standing, Life to change) - something that comes dangerously close to, or is, self-worship."

Ephesians 5:13-17King James Version (KJV)

13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.

14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

Porn is nothing less than the tortured twisted result of what God sits back and does nothing about in this world. He claims He made woman for man, but woman has become the most torturing being on earth to man, I blame God for a lot of it.

Besetting sins are not overcome by doing nothing, fear God. Once convicted, one must decide to repent right then and there with all his heart, and battle sin with much travail if needed be.

I do not believe God will condemn anybody who will employ all their strength in an effort to obey His commandments nor those who struggle against sin in fear of Him. Don't believe this lie.

Nor should we worry if this is just a vain self will:

Psalm 37:5-6 " Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act.He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday."

And if you fail, repent again, knowing that there is no condemnation on them who are in Christ Jesus (Rom 8:1).

But to those who are unrepentant, this is what the Word says:

Romans 2: 5-8

"But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed.

He will render to each one according to his works: to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life;

but for those who are self-seeking1 and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury."

Amen passerby. If we sin we have an advocate. Today we need to live with eternity in mind. I am glad that a production can help men find strength in this battle.

Have you notice the regular networks here in the U.S.A. using Gods name in vein, the filth that fills almost every program. Even though they don't show nudity the impression is not left to imagination what is going on.

What worries me the most is that little kids watch these programs. Looking at my generation (X), how we raised our kids and now we are reaping the harvest of our children generation of UN disciplined millennials.

Jesus is coming.

I cannot believe no body has responded to 'single's' post.

Brethren, is there no body that can help this poor man?

Single, I am so sorry you have such a dislike for females...I really am. I am a wife to one man - for 48 years - who birthed 4 males, all married... I love my menfolks - sons, SIL, grandsons, my dad, brother...

So sad...you need help, sir, and the sooner you get it the better off you will be.

Does he/she really mean this?

Saints,

We have edited that post by "single" and he needs our prayers to realize pornography is a sin that he cannot blame on anyone but himself. God can give the victory. This is the same for all of us.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 New King James Version (NKJV)

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
