Richard Wurmbrand, founder of Voice of the Martyrs, has said it was never considered a church service in the first century unless the martyrs were remembered.
On this day in history, April 9th, 1945, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, was martyred for his faith in Christ in Flossenburg Germany. Bonhoeffer was a German Pastor in the underground church known as the Confessing Church in Nazi Germany. He was one of the few pastors who spoke out against the annihilation of the Jews by Hitler. Bonhoeffer left us the modern classic, the Cost of Discipleship.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer leaves us a legacy in terms of the life he lived and what he wrote in his book, the Cost of Discipleship. Dietrich Bonhoeffer gave us the term cheap grace. And reminds us that it was a costly grace by which we follow Jesus Christ.
I feel constrained by the Spirit to remember this brother in the forum. To remember those modern martyrs who laid down their lives for the Lord Jesus Christ. Truly Bonhoeffer was one of them.
God grant that his life will inspire us to live those lives of costly grace. God grant that we will be those disciples that know the cost of discipleship.
Posted in honor and respect of a brother who has gone before us. And should be included in that role call of that great cloud of witnesses who surround us.
Respectfully Posted.
