John 6:7 [NLT]- Philip replied, "Even if we worked for months, we wouldn't have enough money to feed them!"
When Jesus asked his disciples to test them about how to feed the multitude of people who came to hear him, Philip who is one of his disciples looked on to working for months to earn enough money to feed those people. He did not answer that we need to collect money passing an offering bucket to feed the people. But today in Churches they announce all the needs and ask people to put money in the bucket. I believe the pastors are fist looking at collecting money from congregation rather than looking on to God (which is the best option that Jesus did) or even earning the money themselves (which is 2nd best what Philip did).
I attend a Church where the offering bucket is not passed around so that people will be forced to put. The money box is laid at the back seat and those who give do it in secret.
Now I am not boasting about this practice but I am surprised how many believers are not concerned about the love of money that they see in their Church which is evident from this unbiblical practice of passing money bucket. I am wondering how you are tolerating it? Is it out of ignorance you tolerate or you think God will not be bothered by such behavior?
I was born again in an American Mega Church, but I left the Church on the day when the pastor preached a sermon on offering more money. Nothing against the sermon (though many things in it were unbiblical) but that day alone they gathered money after the sermon so that people will give more after being convicted by the sermon. Is it not using the sermon to play with Human emotions?
The purpose of this thread is not to Judge the churches that practice this, I am sure 99.99% of Churches do this practice in US. But I want to know what makes the believers in these Churches to tolerate such acts?
In India the practice is much worse, they even announce on Speakers how much each person has given that week. It is a practice that they got from Hindu Temples. I am sure not many Churches in US have degraded to that level, but can soon happen. I am not a prophet to prophecy this but I can see it quickly happening.
I was once hearing Brother Zac Poonen and he was comparing the practice of passing offering bucket to the sin of Gahazee who went behind Naman to get money. Did he not end up getting also Naman's leprosy? What do we learn from such incidents of Old Testament?
