God does not speak only through the printed word, the Bible.
I don't think this is a "radical" statement. But we have to approach it carefully, balanced and with discernment.
"For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God".Romans 1:20
We also see God's hand in history, He brought down the "Iron Curtain " in a day -one of many powerful testimonies !
Here is something from the written Word: " Though I am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, 9and to illuminate for everyone the stewardship of this mystery, which for ages past was hidden in God, who created all things.…Ephesians 3:8
Brother you get the idea of what I am saying. I agree. But trying to provoke some thinking on the part of those who say God speaks onky throigh the writtem word.
How about we change the statement a bit?
"God does not speak only through the printed words of the Bible, but He often does."
I think that would provide a healthy balance.
God can speak to an individual personally through the Holy Spirit, through other people, and circumstances/events. But what He says through others will never contradict His written word. I think we need the written word to discern and prove what is spoken through other means.
Just my thoughts, brother.
We need the Spirit, and we need the Word.
In the beginning the Spirit was brooding
over the face of the deep, and "God said,
let there be light."
Only the Holy Spirit can give us revelation
and understanding of the Word.
As our sister mentioned, God speaks to us
in many ways, but it will never contradict
the Word of God.
Saints appreciate your poats. Good thoughts. Let me put forth another question to maybe go deeper into this discussion.
What is the word of God?
Or maybe you could say,...
Who is the word of God?
And He is both written (logos) and breathed (rhema) and to be balanced we need both to find His place in our hearts.
God never "contradicts" His Word, but actually normatively & sometimes often speaks prophetically by His Spirit in/to/through His Bride. This is clear from scriptural doctrine, scriptural examples, & experience.
