Man if we could grab a hold of this things would be a lot simpler.
Doing will not lead to being, in our case, a Christian...but being, a Christian, must lead to the doing.
The doing, though, can prepare the heart for the gift of the being :).....as in, doing works worthy of repentance

There definitely is a tension there, but I think OC is talking about being in a right relationship with Jesus. If we are, we will do what He says.
Of course to be in that relationship there are things we must do, like seek and worship him. But we don't do things like walking the neighbors dog *in order* to establish the relationship. We do that ӢbecauseӢ of the relationship.
