An Overall Opinion Question

I think it is probably fair to say that we all appreciate the messages contained on the Sermon Index database. That being said I do have an overall perspective question.

Who are the person(s) that you most "connect with" their messages and sermons on SI. I realize that many of us connect with several of the ministers contained on the audio messages. However, are there ones that you particularly "connect with" their overall messages?

For me it is clearly Duncan Campbell and J. Edwin Orr.

Your response and thoughts?

Definitely Duncan Campbell but l have not much knowledge of J E Orr so am reading up in him. Good subject though.

What is it exactly that you are in accordance with in the teaching of these two men that you think that others did not emphasise enough?

Hi Solomon, I also like the sermons by Duncan Campbell.

Because of his teaching on genuine Revivals.

I also enjoy hearing teaching on Personal revival and repentance.

I have not heard many speakers but I can believe there's lots of good things on the same subject matter here.

I can only go by the ones I have most burned to discs, and that would be art Katz, Michael brown and Vance havner.

I have also listened to a lot of the "compilations" many times.

Hi Brenda,

You asked,

What is it exactly that you are in accordance with in the teaching of these two men that you think that others did not emphasise enough?

Great question. I don't think it is so much a "uniqueness" of their teaching or that others necessarily are negligent in any way of emphasizing some truth.

I tend to feel that it is because both men experienced tremendous outpourings of God and were then used to lead actual outpourings of the Holy Spirit in their day. It is more because of their heart and passion for what they have known and experienced.

There are lots of folks that talk about those things. There are many posters on this site that, "talk about those things", .... sometimes at great length. However, there are far fewer that have actually experienced them. There and then even a far, far fewer number that God has actually used to be leaders of those type outpourings.

That is the thing that really connects in my heart. They know and have experienced the thing they speak of. It isn't simply a mental understanding or them putting out their opinion on the topic. It is a living vibrant reality that they have had a first hand experience with.

Dear Solomon

I have been blessed in listening to Edwin Orr's sermons and talks. He reminds me of David Pawson with his brilliant searching mind and depth of knowledge of scripture and yes l agree with taking more note of men who have lived in revival times.

However, l found him lacking in knowledge that revival is based on believers being restored whereas his understanding is regarding conversion of the unbeliever and the nominal Christian. Although they are involved too, they are the results of the main issue and that is, believers coming to the understanding by revelation by God of what He expects of His people and that is holiness, and the reception if a pure heart by a believer us what it is all about.

So although his work is valuable l do not put it in the same league as Duncan Campbell as he knew and taught this.

Art Katz.
He speaks clearly on our call and purpose as a church.

Rare teaching, very rare.
