Praying things that are Antiscriptural why do people do it

D

It is amazing when I hear people pray for things like World Peace or other issues that are extremely anti biblical

Matthew 6:7-8King James Version (KJV)

7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

How many prayers do we hear in church are completely unbiblical because we have a completely biblically illiterate church

People are supposed to pray in faith like little children.

Little children are not master theologians nor do they have the Bible memorized.

A child does not need to be an expert in parenting when he asks mom or dad for something.

Todd,

Our brother has an excellent point, though. Far better to learn what the will of God is so we can have faith when we pray that He will answer.

A child who knows his parents will know better than to ask for something he knows they will not give...

Jus sayin' ...

Say if people pray for world peace and the bible states that the world will not have world peace

There is a difference between childlike faith and childish faith.

Hosea 4:6

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

Matt 18
1At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? 2And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, 3And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. 4Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. 6But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

In the actual passage it says to have childlike faith but compare it to say

Hebrews 5
11Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing. 12For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. 13For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. 14But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Why should God answer something that directly contradicts his word or his nature, The problem is that people have an idolatrous view of God, Jesus that is anti scriptural

If someone was praying to commit sin you would avert them, It has been the same issue with say the issue of Brexit.

People can pray things that are completely anti scriptural such as for the Interfaith movement or say for Palestine. God would not answer it because it goes completly against his word, We are taught to have faith like Children not a mind like Children

Acts 20
For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.

2 Timothy 2:15
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

2 Thessalonians 2King James Version (KJV)

2 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,

2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.

7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Most people would rather pray lies rather than have a love of the truth, it is careful not to be decieved.

If God says one thing and you are not in align with Gods word it would be like saying I love God but hate everything that he says. You cannot love God and not know his character and his nature.

It would be like being in a relationship but not actually reading any texts, emails or communications from that person. How can we love Jesus and not know what he says.

Proverbs 28:9
He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

Dominic. Agreed, as stated in my previous reply.

We should all help each other pray correctly and correct each other when we pray wrongly

it should be in love afterwards quietly

If we only pray for what we absolutely know Gods will to be, why bother? Sounds stupid to me.

That's like asking your parents for the Christmas presents that you found when you snuck into their closet and know they already bought.

1 John 5:14-15. And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us: And if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desire of Him.

Romans 8:26-27. Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

Scripture tells us that the only prayer God hears is the prayer that is according to His will. I think it is critical that we search the scriptures and get to know God and His will so that we may pray according to His will. However, He has sent His Holy Spirit to help our weaknesses and help us to pray according to God's will when we are ignorant of that will ourselves

There is a huge difference between praying according to God's will and figuring out exactly what his will is and then praying for that. If we know exactly what his will is, there is no need to be praying for it.

Praying for someone's healing is a perfect example. How can we figure out what God's will is in regard to the person's recovery? Must we not pray until we know 100% for sure what will happen? If we figure that out, why pray?

In regard to the example of praying for world peace, were people during WW1 and WW2 wrong for praying for an end to the wars and the holocaust? How did they know it was not God's will for these wars to be waged? Art Katz thought the holocaust was God's will.

Some things are just "right" to pray for because they are good or seem to express the heart of Jesus. If someone asks me to pray for their healing I am not going to say "give me a few weeks to figure out God's will on the matter and I will get back to you." Balderdash.

Things like the saving of souls, revival, peace, healing, freedom from demonic oppression, safety from peril, reconciliation of familial relationships, etc should always be prayed for without waiting to figure out what God's will is. We will never ever really know for sure, anyway.
