Disputing about words

I
InTheLight Sep 5, 2016

From today's Canaan in the Desert email;

Charge them before the Lord to avoid disputing about words, which does no good.
2 Timothy 2:14

Disputes about Scripture are forbidden territory. Do not venture there. You will only be sidetracked from the heavenly goal. It is the Holy Spirit who will help you to understand the mysteries of God in the Bible, and God gives the Holy Spirit to those who love Him. Instead of arguing, learn to love God more, and His Spirit will show you the answers to your questions.

The Bereans are such a great example of how to work together to see what the scriptures say. Even though Paul was an apostle they could not just receive what he said unless the Lord confirmed it to them. And to Paul's great credit, he respected that, staying with them for two years to search the scriptures together with them. Paul wasn't condescending or accusatory to them and the Bereans were open and teachable. Like Reagan said, "Trust but verify".
