A telltale sign that the Church misunderstands the nature of salvation & the trasformative power of the gospel is when it begins looking to government to do in society what can only be done by God.
Some in the Church are still seeking to LEGISLATE social & moral change. If we have learned anything from the Old Testament it is that laws do not change people. God is in the business of heart change.
Here is the difference: Laws only change the consequence of one's actions. They are meant to serve as a deterrent. A heart change however, will change one's desires and actions.
The beauty of it is this: the more that hearts are transformed, the more we will see positive change in our society's social and moral structure. This is God's plan and this is why the good news of the Gospel is imperative, if we would see a change of course in any nation.
God's plan does not work in reverse. His plan is not legislative; it is transformative. "If any man is in Christ, he is a new creation." This is how real and lasting change comes about.
