I met a man in a discussion group in Dallas Tx. He was born Jew, but his current belief is different. He now believes in One almighty God but not in any religion. He also believes that more than one religion can be right. So he does not believe that his belief alone is right. But he also believes that he has no need to change his belief.
Now the thing I found unique about his belief is he believed in having a personal relationship with God. He believed he is now connected with God directly and not in need of any mediator. He believes that his Sin breaks this connection with God but he has now learnt or corrected himself to live without breaking this connection. This sounded to me like a perfect Christian life taking Christ away from the picture.
Apart from answering so many questions he had about Christianity with best of my ability I also gave him a different picture of Christianity. Like I explained him how Christianity is not a religion but it is a life of being disciple to Jesus. I also told that I am not religious but spiritual and explained the difference between the 2 terms.
At some stage he accepted that he has sinned in past but since he has corrected himself, his God has forgiven him. But he will come to know that he has really forgiven him only when he leaves the earth. I asked him how his God can just forgive him without any punishment, does that not make him unjust. He kept insisting that his God is Just but does not need punishment to prove that.
I feel if he really sees the true Christian life, he will eventually understand the purpose of having Jesus. As of now I want to pray for him and also meet him every week. He too is keen on meeting me more as he found me giving totally different answers than what normal Christians have given. He understood that my faith was not (just) blind faith but a logical one (too).
I want know if any of you here has met such a person and witnessed to him.
