Deliverance of a Christian

B
BrotherCalton Oct 25, 2016

I have never encountered a place in the new testament whereby a Christian was delivered from demon possession.
But I have see people professing Christians,Holy Ghost filled with the evidence of speaking in tongues being delivered from demons
Can somebody explain to me please
Are these people really born again or not?
Does a real Christian need deliverance?
Help me even with links where I can find answer s concerning this
Thank You

Dear brother,

I believe your first sentence is the answer to your question: " I have never encountered a place in the new testament whereby a Christian was delivered from demon possession."

God bless,

BroCalton,

Derek Prince has many sermons on casting out demons, he believed that Christian's (born again people) could be oppressed of the devil. His explanation was Chicago because he lived there at the time, he stated that did Mayor Daley and the police dept have control of every single area in Chicago? No, they did not.

And he likened that to a believer's life except that he asked, "Does the Holy Spirit have control of every single area of your life?" Not that any area of your life is demonized but in some Christian's lives, it is.

I think he tells the story in this sermon and I believe a LOT of your questions will be answered here:
Derek Prince - How To Be Delivered (From Demons / Evil Spirits) (1995)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ed8j33e8viE

(Greg, I didn't see this sermon listed on SI is why I posted the link. I'll take it down if you don't want it here.)

About the other half of your statement, I believe in the NT Jesus didn't minister to Christian's because there weren't any, but He did minister to God's chosen people and Matt, Mark, Luke and John is full of those who were oppressed of the devil and Jesus setting them free.

Ac 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

God bless,
Lisa

I do not believe a Christian can be possessed of the devil or of a demon or demons.
Tempted...yes
Temporarily oppressed...yes, but to be oppressed does not require "casting out" but learning to resist the devil.

I have never seen a demon being driven out of a believer. But I have heard brother Zac Poonen say that a born again Christian can never be possessed by Demon. He may choose to join hands in demon while falling in sin but demon has no authority to enter such a person.

I cannot believe Holy Spirit and a Demon can live at a same time inside a single host.

1 COr 6:19- Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?

Without we yielding to Demon or Satan, Satan has no authority to posses us.

Even in Old Covenant, an Evil spirit entered Saul only after the Spirit of God departed from him. Till then no matter how much he disobeyed God, Evil Spirit could not enter him.

I saw Derek Prince in Phoenix, AZ and went to some of his meetings. It was all about demons being cast out. Many testimonies of people saying they were delivered from many demons. Many claimed they were delivered from over 50 demons. It almost seemed like a contest to see who had the most demons cast out of them.

I decided not to continue to go to these meetings.

Do not forget that Derek Prince became one of the Florida four that started that discipleship movement that destroyed many young Christians.

I always have big problem with those who cast demons or heal sick on stage. Even healing I can understand but casting Demons on stage is something that I find quite contracting to the way Jesus castes out demons.

I once happened to watch a TV preacher cast demon in his service that was shown live. A mike was given to the women who was said to be possessed by Demon. This preacher had a long conversation with the women on stage. Both speaking to one another in some unknown language. In between the preacher kept translating the conversation to keep the crowd interested. Finally the demon was cast out.

Now immediately I said this is entirely fake and setup. Jesus never allowed any demon to speak, but this man gave a mike to a demon possessed women, allowing her to address the crowd. Jesus casted the demon out in one word but this guy was having a conversation with the Devil.
If we know Jesus very well, then we can easily find out all fake preachers.
If anyone advertises his healing or casting of demon then he is 100% fake, because Jesus always told people not to tell anyone about the healing.

First off, I did not say anything about believing in Christians being "possessed" by demons because I don't!!!

Has anyone bothered to listen to Derek's message?

We all know that Jesus asked 'Legion' what his name was. like He didn't know? He had a bit of a conversation there. Or how about guy with the spirit in him crying 'Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? have you come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God. This spirit spoke quite a bit before Jesus shut him up. There are many instances where He let them speak before silencing them. Perhaps He wanted to expose the darkness or give us some instruction on what to expect when we encounter these things.

Lisa was right on when she pointed out that they weren't 'believers' as we would think. They were sick people getting healed and bound people getting set free. The one thing they ALL had in common was they came to Jesus for help and He healed them all!

It looks like it takes the presence of Jesus to expose these critters! Maybe we are lacking in this department.
I know one thing for sure. When the Holy Spirit roots out one of these foul spirits you better be ready to give the Word to get out.! In Jesus name.

Thanks
Rusty

Brother,

I say this in love ... your posts are usually all about God's grace and forgiveness but yet you extend none towards Derek. Yes, he was involved in that group but no one seems to remember that he was the FIRST to leave that group, around 1983.

If you are a calvinist then these sorts of questions don't make any sense. Thats because a calvinist believes that a true christian will always be a true christian and that their state is unalterable. But if you understand that a born again believer can fall away from God and can lose their salvation then you can understand that the Spirit of God can depart from such a person. When that happens anything is possible.

I think much of what happened in the OT to Israel were types of what happens to us in the NT and were given as examples that we may learn to live this life, and many of the nations in the OT are a type of demonic oppression, some are a type of physical weakness, etc... that said I do not believe a Christian can be possessed. I do believe they can be vexed, oppressed, bound up, subjected to vexing s tormented etc.... but I do not believe that is the normal Christian life, maybe for more stubborn Christians dealing with besetting sins or habits from their life before Christ which did not seem to lose its grip over them when they first believed and started their walk following Christ, in some cases they need a little extra, I guess you can call it deliverance or what ever you want to label it. The man in the tombs was possessed and Jesus set him free and he was found than clothed and in his right mind, I like that...clothed and in his right mind, I meet a lot of professing Christians who I consider anything but in their right mind, just saying. If you need some places to read may I suggest the Book of Ephesians and maybe like 1 Peter 5. Jude is a good book to read about those that are Christian s who seem to be headed into the wrong direction and have a less than a happy ending.. If you are willing ask Jesus to give you understanding, He really is faithful to hear those prayers and enjoys teaching us from His Word and than showing us in real life, real time exactly what it was He was teaching us from His Word.

Thank You Sister Lisa
I have listened to Derek Prince
The explanation he gave has answered me,
A Christians can be oppressed in some area of their lives
I like the way he explained about the translations of the words about demonization
Thank You Very Much God bless
My question was based on what I have witnessed
And this is the answers I have been seeking according to my experiences

"Now when the unclean spirit goes out of a man, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came’; and when it comes, it finds it unoccupied, swept, and put in order. Then it goes and takes along with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first".

From this passage I believe that Jesus is showing us that a demon can be cast out of a person but unless that person has the Holy Spirit in residence then it is possible for a demon to repossess that person. It is quite possible that this person may be religious and may appear to be a christian and may attend church but may have never have received the Holy Spirit. In this case it is possible that this person will become demon possessed again, but this time much worse.

I would also contend that a so called Christian who loses their salvation can also become demon possessed, but I can accept that many struggle with this concept.

I do not believe that a born again believer can be demon possessed though, just wanted to make that part clear:-)
