The ipod's are nice, no doubt about it, but I purchased a iriver ipf-790 and I'm very pleased with it. You can pick one up for just under $100 now.It is a flash memory based device and not a hard drive device so it is much more durable and ideal for using during exercise. Because it's a flash device it only has 256MB of space but I have found that to be plenty for my needs. It uses one AA battery that lasts much longer than the battery in an ipod. I just use rechargeable batteries, when the battery does drain out I just pop another one in and so I don't have to wait for the battery pack to recharge like the ipod. Besides, I wonder what happens when the battery pack in the ipod wears out,is it replaceable? The sound quality is good and it will remember where you left off if you pause a track and turn it off. It also has a FM tuner and you can record from voice via a built in mic or external source(such as a cd player) directly to mp3, a very nice feature I think! It also plays WMA and OGG formats.
