Boldness in God
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
1 John 4:4
Known as the "Reformer of Scotland,” John Knox was highly respected for his powerful sermons. Though small in stature, he preached with fiery boldness, well aware of the heart of God and the destructive nature of the enemy. He incessantly confronted sin and hypocrisy””living much of his life under the threat of death, as a result. Yet to his eternal credit, at his funeral someone said of him, "There lies one who never feared the face of man.” Knox once wrote:
Satan, I confess, rages. But more powerful is He that promised to be with us in all tasks we undertake at His commandment, for the glory of His name, and for the maintenance of true Christianity. And, therefore, the less we fear any contrary power; in the boldness of our God, we altogether despise them, be they kings, emperors, men, angels or devils. For they will never be able to prevail against the simple truth of God which we openly profess. Though by the permission of God they may appear to prevail against our bodies; still our cause shall triumph in despite of Satan.
The fact that there were souls hanging in the balance of an eternity in hell drove Knox to preach with all he had. Such boldness in God comes from realizing the power that dwells within every believer. Within you resides the unlimited power of God.
