Hey all.
I'm working with a youth who is seeking God and is asking questions. She's struggling to understand what we talk about in church and to read the Bible.
I was wondering if anyone knew any good resources for someone who suffers from learning problems? The youth is 12 or 13 with the mental capacity of someone who is about 7 or 8 in some areas.

I would recommend teaching by Zac Poonen, he expresses many times that he tries to make teachings understandable to even the youngest kids. He has a series of 10-15 minute episodes on the foundations of the Christian life titled Basics.

Perhaps this will be as beneficial in your endeavors as it was mine,..
VOM put out an animated gospel DVD which while is exclusively based on John's accounts is nonetheless a well done and quite useful tool. It was created specifically to minister to people in undeveloped places and would most likely be of some service to you.
A copy should be easily obtainable tho if you find difficulties just let me kno and I'll do my best to assist you:)

Art is a great learning tool and it allows for visual learners to express more easily as well.
Singing helps with retention so lots of songs are good.
Most importantly pray. Jesus will meet her in her prayers and his Holy Spirit will teach her.

Hi. First of all is the parents going to church with you?
If not then maybe you should be working with the parents with permission to teach their child.
Secondly, having children in the sanctuary during regular services with the adults is a blessing now a days for children. Proverbs 13:20 states plainly; "Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble."

As for the parents, they aren't church goers but we have permission.
The Scriptures are different than other literature.
, Other literature is to be read with the intellect and those with the highest intellect are the most capable of understanding the authors intent.
Scripture is different than other literature it is to be read/received with/and understood by faith.
Do not worry about feeding meats but instead instill faith and Grace.
I suggest telling her Bible stories. Stories are retained longer then ideas. Within the Bible stories are powerful lessons that come back to teach at the most needy times in one's life. This is why I love stories. Reckon I didn't grow up, either - been trying for 70 years...lol

Praise God that you are working with this young person that has limited mental abilities, and there are resources out there that can help, but I would like to leave you with this one thought concerning the whole matter, and that is that God knows how to reach this young person, and basically it is not through the mind, but through the spirit. The Holy Spirit is our teacher, and the truth of God as revealed by the Holy Spirit to a child can be received, and the grace of God can overcome all human weakness and inability to understand the things of God.
