what is blasphmy of the holy spirit?

D
dorkyrunner Jun 14, 2005

It is said to be the only unforgivable sin. But all our sins are Forgiven through the death and resurection of Christ Jesus, so to my mind, the only unforgivable sin, the Blasphamy of the Holy Spirt can only be a failure to belive and or accept Christ in your heart. What do you think?

HiI posted this link on another thread a while ago which I thought explained it very well.Lizhttp://www.cnetwork.co.uk/leon22.htm

Mark 3:28 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: 29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation: 30 Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.1 Cor 12:3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and [that] no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. Blasphamy of the Holy Spirt can only be a failure to belive and or accept Christ in your heart. What do you think?I think God did not tolerate being spoken against in the wilderness, when He sent fiery serpents among the people (Numbers 21) for a punishment, and to actively curse Him is demonstration of a heart-set which takes no note of the sacrifice of His Son, nor honest fear of the judgment of which Christ's death warns.

Dear Sean,Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is when a person knowingly attributes the work of the Holy Spirit to Satan or devils.Possibly, the parable that tells of the vineyard being left in the husbandman's control while the owner went on a long journey, could be used to illustrate this. The husbandman would be a person that knows who the owner is. Somehow he thinks by killing the servants and the Son that he can get the inheritance. The Pharasees that accused Jesus of doing miracles by Beelzebub knew he was the Son and by accusing Jesus of doing miracles and then latter killing Jesus they could keep the little kingdom that they had here on earth. To know that a miracle is done by the Holy Spirit and out of self preservation say it's done by Satan, would be blasphemy of the Holy Spirit and we are warned that this would never be forgiven. This warning like everything else in the Word is for us today. It is commonly said that if a person has a conviction that they may have done this couldn't have done this because conviction comes from God to lead us to repentance, so there would be no conviction on a person that has done something unforgivable. If this is the case then people who have this conviction probably got it because they unknowingly said that a miracle or some other work of the Holy Spirit wasn't from God and now believe was. An example of this would be someone growing up in a teaching that teaches the gifts or miracles aren't for today, then finding out they are for today and in their former unbelief having a conviction on what they previously said. This is not blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. In Christ,GaryE

Key word here is KNOWING!!!! If you knew that it was the work of God and rebuked it saying its of satan, then your in danger of this. However as mentioned, if your are worried that you have done this, you haven't!!! If you did do it you would not give a flip about it! your already lost! Anyone that calls on the name of the Lord SHALL BE SAVED!!! Someone that has done this will not call on the Lords name, therefore can't be saved. there heart has turned to salt. Its one of those scary scriptures in the Bible hey, but the fear of the Lord is the beginning of all wisdom!!! Love wisdom and hate evil brother, Wisdom will serve you well!!! :-)

Hi Sean,I believe there is a really good sermon on mp3 audio on this site by David Wilkerson. He handles it beautifully. In Jesus,.A.:-P click here, then scroll down it is second from the bottom.Detail:The Unpardonable Sin by David Wilkerson {Matthew 12:31,1 John 5:16} Description: If you are afraid that you have committed it, you probably haven't. Those who have think they are alright. This is an encouraging message to those who have fallen into sin, or been disobedient to God and are afraid they've crossed the line.

GaryE,I think you've given the most thorough, accurate, and Biblically sound explanation I've ever heard. Thank you for that.

Luk 11:14 And he was casting out a demon that was dumb. And it came to pass, when the demon was gone out, the dumb man spake; and the multitudes marvelled. Luk 11:15 But some of them said, By Beelzebub the prince of the demons casteth he out demons. Luk 11:16 And others, trying him, sought of him a sign from heaven. Luk 11:17 But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth. Luk 11:18 And if Satan also is divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out demons by Beelzebub. Luk 11:19 And if I by Beelzebub cast out demons, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges. Luk 11:20 But if I by the finger of God cast out demons, then is the kingdom of God come upon you. Notice in these verses, Jesus is again being thought by >common folk< to be casting out demons by the devil. Look what He says to them, He treats them with kindness and not a horrid rebuke, as He done so with the Religious-Pharisees. WHY? Because the Religious or Pharisees are held at a higher accountability to the truth, They should have know better because they had the knowledge of the Truth, where as the common people who didn't know the truth are giving mercy and shown compassion by our Gracious Lord! Everything depends on how the Lord sees your heart, for these poor people, spoken of in luke, they just didn't understand what they were saying. God is so Good!! I believe also this can be said of the Gifts of the Spirit, by saying as an example, "Tongues is of the devil" etc. If its in the scripture, and your not sure either way, as for my example, its best to leave it untouched, and trust God for enlightenment. :-)

What do you think?Yo, Dorkyrunner,1 John 5:16 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.I do earnestly believe that when one attacks the work of the Holy Spirit, for example in the ministry of a another child of God. This is something which can destroy a ministry for the Lord. A hard thing to imagine a brother or sister for whom Christ died doing something like that. I do think that you will find Dave Wilkersons sermon as I linked for you most satisfying, being that he has more experience in ministry that anyone on this site...lolIn Jesus,.A.:-P

Blasphemy of God and Christ is an outward sign of an inward resistance against the same. One who resists the Holy Spirit, like the men of Acts 7:51 did, are those who resist the gospel, instead of obeying the gospel.Romans 10:16, "But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?"2 Thes 1:8, "In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ"1 Peter 4:17, "For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?"Scripture teaches these that do not give in to the saving grace of God by repentance and faith in Christ's works, which is brought by the Holy Spirit through the gospel, cannot be saved. The gospel is the Holy Spirit manifested in the voice of His saints. That is why Jesus said His voice is spirit, and His words are life. That's why salvation is by grace through faith, and faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. So one who blaspemes against the Holy Ghost, is the one who resists the saving grace of God, the words of life, the preaching of the cross. It is one who does not repent and put his faith in Christ, even after he is convicted by the Holy Ghost.
