Many people today walk around claiming that they love God and that they are devoted to God. Yet, when it comes to others, especially fellow Christians, they show little to no love. In 1 John 5:20 we read "If someone says, 'I love God,' yet hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen." Put simply, our love for God is demonstrated in our love towards others. We can only love God in proportion to our love for others. If you say you love God, yet frequently slander others behind their backs, then you are a liar. If you say you love God, yet cuss other people out, you are a liar. If you say you love God, yet refuse to help those who are in need, then you are a liar.Think about it for a second. All of mankind is created in the image of God. The Divine image of God Almighty is present in every single human being- no matter how sinful they are. Therefore if we truly love God as we say we do, we ought to love others who are created in the very image of the God Whom we claim to love. How much more then should we love our Christian brethren in whom Christ dwells?If God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, and we as Christians have had this love placed in us as a fruit of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22), then shouldn't we manifest this same love towards others? If this self-sacrificing, all-giving, Divine love dwells within us, shouldn't it get out of us every now and then?
