K. P. Yohanan - Lawsuit

D
DEADn Jun 17, 2017

At this posting I see that there is a featured sermon by K.P.. It seems KP is being sued for fraud and racketeering with GFA. What is going on here?

http://www.patheos.com/blogs/warrenthrockmorton/2017/06/06/k-p-yohannan-will-face-jury-fraud-case/

http://www.patheos.com/blogs/warrenthrockmorton/2017/06/05/fraud-gospel-for-asia/

These are only blogs but they do have references in them about this lawsuit. Anyone want to give their input on this?

I took a google look at this and found this

https://www.change.org/p/the-gospel-for-asia-board-of-directors-removing-k-p-yohannan-as-the-ceo-of-gospel-for-asia

If these allegations are true why is their a featured sermon from K.P.?

Brother,

There have been many allegations made and some practices of how Gospel for Asia handled money were not clear or done in a way that could have broken standard rules. This is in no way dis-qualifying. They lost ECFA status in America and as far as I know they have been working to re-gain the status and correct any errors or procedures they have done wrong.

There have been alot of personal slander and attacking of KP Yohannan and this is all over-exaggerated. Of course hindu news agencies are having a hay-day to try and demonize him even stating in one that there is a arrest warrant out for him and he will be in jail in america. This is a lie and not true at all.

Also bloggers in the West such as warren throckmorton enjoy trying to accuse and find any accusation they can to build a case. I do not see the biblical model of love, helping but rather only tearing down and accusing of which satan is the "accuser of the brethren".

The use of monies to start colleges that are biblically based under their church movement is also not disqualifying neither the hospital they built. In the end all denominations or large church movements will have their own schools, hospitals, clinics, seminaries and many other buildings. So it is strange to demand that gospel for asia only fund missionaries to share with tracts only.

Without doubt the gospel for asia movement in India has brought millions to know Jesus who have never heard and they have had some of the most signifigant fruit amongst unreached peoples in north india.

SermonIndex and myself stand with them in prayer and support and believe God will allow their best days to be ahead.

Lastly, we did make a public statement a few months ago here about this:

So it doesn't matter how you play the game, so long as you win (souls)? The apostle Paul was emphatic about running a straight race, even saying he would be disqualified (a castaway or an abortive) if he didn't do things God's way.

The banner says "H.E. (His Eminence) the most Rev. Dr. K. P. Yohannan." How contrary to Jesus' statement "for I am meek and lowly of heart" or His encouragement to take the lowest seat when bidden to a feast.

But there are a number of preachers whose sermons are touted on this website who lived (or presently live) double lives, amassing much wealth for themselves and "lording it over the Lord's heritage" instead of being servant of all. Shall I name names? I left a famous church that fits the bill. You would be heartbroken if you knew what I know, and saw what I've seen.

Dear brother,

Perhaps this is part of the problem also that we are prone in our human natures (the flesh) to judge and mis-trust and not at times understand that we will all stand before God to be judged for our portions. I try and choose at times a simplier way for being in ministry yet I have met some men who have many comforts of the world being full-time workers for God. I do not judge them.

James 4:11-12 New International Version (NIV)

11 Brothers and sisters, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against a brother or sister[a] or judges them speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it. 12 There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you””who are you to judge your neighbor?

It is my conviction that the Apostles were esteemed greatly in the new testament church, it would make modern evangelicals in north america uncomfortable. In the last 20 years there has been a downgrade where pastors are now just "buddies" like one of us, most of them do not wear suits or vestments (of which was normal in ALL protestant churches). The pastor is now said to be just like everyone else which denies scripture as the epistles to Timothy speak of requirements above for leaders in the Church. It is no wonder that so many scandals now are happening as modern pastors are partaking of all the sins and compromising activities their congregations are doing, as the pastors at times are not giving a higher standard or way to follow, as Paul the Apostle said to follow him as he followed Christ.

The title Rev. was used universally for ministers of most denominations until recently.

RE : ///Perhaps this is part of the problem also that we are prone in our human natures (the flesh) to judge and mis-trust...///

We are not called into blind trust of religious leaders, the New Testament over and over warns against that.

RE : /// The title Rev. was used universally for ministers of most denominations until recently.///

But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.
9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.

This further clarifies the problem with institutionalized Christianity. The old line of "Just because it is in church history or the early church did it...it must be right." Is tiring and a bondage to true believers... only Christ can reveal to a soul how this world wide institution keeps believers as babies on the milk.

Greg, I don't believe you would ever bill yourself as "his eminence" here on Sermon Index or elsewhere (not even on Father's Day!).

Greg

What is your interest in K P Yohanan that you would be defending him as you are?

Dear brother,

He is a genuine brother in the Lord. We should pray for and stand with those who we love in the Lord and are co-labourers in the gospel.

I made this statement above that I believe explains. Trust that helps.

Your interest is that he is a brother in Lord............. does it not bother you about the turmoil going on with the GFA and then things he is 'making' people do that is really not the will of God?

Your words read to me as someone who is in denial of what is going on with KP and instead you are taking on the 60's vibe of peace, love , and happiness. It makes me stand back and 'say what?'

Do you have ties to KP other than calling him a brother in the Lord?

sermonindex Jun 21, 2017

Brother,

I have been a supporter and prayer support for Gospel for Asia for I believe over 10 years. I have even an opportunity a few times to visit the work while in India. It has always been a privildge to feel to be a apart of what God is doing in the Church there.

Also SermonIndex therefore has supported the work of Gospel for Asia over the years also and still does.

What would have to happen for you to begin to step away from GFA and KP as we begin to see things happens with that organization in testiomonies of some scripture twisting and being sued in court.

At what point would you begin to question KP and back away from him and/or the organization? Or would there be any point?

sermonindex Jun 27, 2017

For instance, Dr. John R. Rice (evangelist and publisher of THE SWORD OF THE LORD weekly) and Jack Wyrtzen (founder of Word of Life) were both friends and supporters of Billy Graham, but both also privately rebuked him in the '50s for his (increasingly evident) ecumenical compromise and involvement with the World Council of Churches, and eventually they both publicly distanced themselves from him.

I have no doubt that they continued to love and pray for him, but could no longer collaborate with or endorse him (as they once had).

Sree Jun 28, 2017

I have never given a single penny to GFA hence I have no authority to judge them. But I have seriously considered joining them at some point, mainly because of my interactions with Greg of SI.

I heard from a very trustworthy source that he will not give his money to GFA anymore. I believe that source more than anyone else.

Regarding judgment, I do not agree with certain posts here saying one cannot judge the servant of God. That is not Biblical. We have to judge every servant of God, else how will we identify the wolf in sheep's clothing?

Jesus himself commanded us to judge righteously (John 7:24). Anyone who only quotes the scriptures about judgment without quoting the scripture on righteous judgment is a liar. Satan quoted only one side of scripture to tempt Jesus, but he balanced it with other side.

As a person who gives his hard earned money to ministry, we need to judge righteously. As a believer who wants to hear Godly sermons, we need to judge the speakers righteously. We cannot go on believing every spirit, but discern the spirit.

sermonindex Jun 28, 2017

Amen, Sree. You are quite right. The apostle Paul spoke in this fashion of a fellow believer who was willfully sinning: "To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus" (1 Corinthians 5:5). And to Titus the apostle Paul wrote: "A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject, knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself" (Titus 3:10,11).

These and many other passages deal with righteous judgment of fellow human beings in the household of faith---not condemnation (only God can judge and cast souls into hell)---but judgment of whether they be worthy to (continue) hold(ing) a position of authority within the body of believers, or even to enjoy the privilege of fellowship at all (when unwilling to repent of continued sin).

Sadly, there are many who preach eloquently, even with inspiration (God does not withdraw gifts), who do not live what they preach. There is not a situation going on today that the Scriptures have not already addressed. Jesus said of the scribes and Pharisees, "All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works, for they say, and do not" (Matthew 23:3).

I came out of a church that (rightly) condemned the prosperity gospel, and yet the leadership grossly underpays most of the staff, and have LAVISH salaries and perks for themselves. The lead pastor became a multi-millionaire within the past fifteen years alone...and left many of his workers with a salary of ten dollars per hour, never getting a raise in all of that time. That is EVIL in the sight of a just and holy God, and yet his sermons are often featured on this site.

drifter Jun 28, 2017

I'm sure this is just an attack from Satan against GFA. The devil is as mad as a hornet that so many lost souls are being saved through this ministry.

Even if brother Yohannan has made some mistakes, we should stand with him, and if he has sinned, try to restore him (I'm not saying he has).

I wonder what some people's reaction would be if they lived in king David's time when he had Uriah killed and stole his wife. We know David did those things and we know he was a man of God despite failing miserably. Brother Yohannan has not even been tried yet and we're ready to loudly denounce him.

I've heard it said that the church is the only army that shoots its wounded. It shouldn't be this way.

sermonindex Jun 28, 2017

Well, Nigel, do keep us apprised as to how you do in restoring him.

sermonindex Jun 29, 2017

Saints,

I believe enough has been said on this thread and in the end these are accusations by a blogger being posted. We agree with brother Nigel and others that we should keep Brother KP Yohannan in prayer as well as others and commit this to the Lord.

We ask that the same articles and accusations not be posted on SermonIndex.
