I much admire wise Mary's choice,
At Jesu's blessed feet;
Who only list'ning to his voice,
Did hidden manna eat.
Though Martha much her sister blamed,
Yet Jesus took her part;
For well he knew he had enflamed,
With love her raptured heart.
May I, with her, this needful thing,
Henceforward ever choose;
Whilst all the beauties of my King,
My very soul transfuse.
Ah, what is like this heav'nly dew,
This unction from above!
'Tis this, indeed, makes all things new,
With pure essential love.
Dissolved in this--we want no more,
Our self-aspirings cease;
We sabbatise on Canaan's shore,
Replete with Jesu's peace.
