Leviticus 6:12-13 speaks to the same. "The fire on the altar must be kept burning; it must not go out. Every morning the priest is to add firewood and arrange the burnt offering on the fire and burn the fat of the fellowship offerings on it. The fire must be kept burning on the altar continuously; it must not go out."

It is a charge to the priests. Are we not priests according to Revelation 1:5-6 "To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father””to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen."?

It was a great work that had to be done everyday 24/7. The altar was not sheltered. It would have been exposed to the weather. Can you imagine them in inclement weather rushing to and fro, feeding the fire so that the flames fought off the rain? The command was that the fire must not go out. Three times in Leviticus 6 (9, 12, 13) the Lord commands that the fire must not be allowed to go out. We do well to take heed.
