It was not total in Joplin, Missouri, but was about 95% obscured. No spiritual connection. I teach at a high school in the area and we took all of the students out to see it. It is the second partial eclipse that I have seen, and I understand we will have another total eclipse in our area in about 7 years. I hope to be able to travel to see that one in totality if possible, but that is still a long way off. The drop in temperature, the increase of breeziness, and the dimming of the light was an interesting feeling. Something very different from what we are accustomed to, so it did have a slightly eerie feeling to it.
I am in North Carolina- we had about 96% coverage. It got noticeably cooler and dimmer, but not dark. Birds stopped chirping. It was a tad eerie.
I am hoping that folks in places along the path of totality where it got totally dark for a couple of minutes stopped to think for a few minutes; or maybe that they will do so later. I do not place spiritual significance on the eclipse (other than that it is a spectacularly designed work of God) but perhaps it will get folks thinking about God, judgment,their position with God, etc.
It was a dud in Bemidi, MN. Hardly anything noticeable happened although I caught a quick glimpse through the clouds of the sun going into eclipse.
I'm student teaching in Kansas and it wasn't total eclipse but it was neat to see with our students. We had a ton of clouds and that made it difficult to see most of the time but the time we did see it I thought it was cool. Nothing significant happened and God's wrath didn't seem to fall from the sky to punished the United States. I also did not gained super powers which honestly was a bit of a bummer but you can't have your cake and eat it too.
20Come, my people ( remnant ), enter into your rooms
            And close your doors behind you;
            Hide for a little while ( in Christ )
            Until indignation ( God's wrath ) runs its course.
      21For behold, the LORD is about to come out from His place
            To punish the inhabitants of the earth ( America ) for their iniquity;
            And the earth ( Anerica ) will reveal her bloodshed ( abortion, persecuted believers)Â
            And will no longer cover her slain.

  9"It will come about in that day,” declares the Lord GOD,
            "That I will make the sun go down at noon
            And make the earth dark in broad daylight.
      10"Then I will turn your festivals into mourning
            And all your songs into lamentation;
            And I will bring sackcloth on everyone’s loins
            And baldness on every head.
            And I will make it like a time of mourning for an only son,
            And the end of it will be like a bitter day.
      11"Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord GOD,
            "When I will send a famine on the land,
            Not a famine for bread or a thirst for water,
            But rather for hearing the words of the LORD.
      12"People will stagger from sea to sea
            And from the north even to the east;
            They will go to and fro to seek the word of the LORD,
            But they will not find it.

Schools dismissed for the day here in middle Tennessee where we were in the path of totality. Where I live, it was great until about 15 minutes before totality when clouds rolled in and obscured that view. BUT, it got so dark for about a minute or so that street lamps came on, lightning bugs (fireflies for my non southeastern-US friends) came out and crickets chirped their late summer evening song. Was wild to see the sudden dimming and sudden lightening of the day as totality came and went. Memorable moment.
Funny, my wife got on a plane this morning for DC. First time she's been there. She missed being here with us for the event. But, odd that her first trip there happened on this remarkably memorable date. First time she went to NYC was also her first plane trip on February 26, 1993. I took her to the airport in Huntsville, AL to catch a connecting flight in Nashville to NYC -- got back in my little pickup truck and turned on the radio to hear the breaking news that the World Trade Center had been bombed.
Thanks to all for your prayers for us, too, from earlier this year. I start my new job in TN tomorrow.
// "That I will make the sun go down at noon//
It was actually 2:46 pm here, and the sun didn't go down- it was right up there.
Now if the sun did go down at noon that would definitely be a sign.
hi all
I think that when people talk about "their will be signs in the skys" they are of the opinion that it will be just natural phenomena .
Let me relate a dream(one of a few) I got from God about signs in the sky at the end.
Firstly let me say that I believe these things will actually happen thats the sense I got from the dream.
I was in a van with some other people and as we passed by I saw groups of people strangers to each other gathering together talking to each other with a real sense of fear/anxiety/disbelief even.Then we went on and saw a similar group.At that stage I shouted look and I saw in the sky what had agitated the people.A Sissors ,white in colour hanging in the sky in the middle of the day,half open.About the size of a full moon,clouds would pass by but the sissors would not move and people were in shock because they knew this was not natural and were perplexed.It was obvious to me in the dream this sign was from God.
Another dream this time it was clear to me that it was a conterfeit sign.It was at night and stars were ziging and zagging making patterns and I was saying in the dream it was demonic .The signs served no purpose only to dazzle and confuse.
Thats what I have to share make of it what you will but am I saying the dreams were from God,definitely and do I think they will physically happen yes thats the sense I got from the dreams,
urs staff
I have had very similar dreams staff. One I really remember is is that I was with a group of people on a hillside looking over a big city like LA. It was nighttime and I probably saw a scene like that in a movie or something.
All of a sudden there was a big flash like a flash bulb that went over the city. There was no boom but rather a very loud sound like electrical discharge but super powerful and loud.
Up on the hillside we knew we were not going to make it- we had peace because we were believers but we actually began saying our goodbyes, hugging etc before the blast or whatever hit us, then I woke. I am not 100% certain it was from the Lord (I have had two dreams that I have no doubt were) but it may have been.
Amos 8:9-12 is fulfilled prophecy!
Why do you not put another country in parentheses?
Are you prophesying?
If so, you have proved yourself a false prophet!
It may be time for you to hibernate!
Our location in east Tennessee was center. Was amazing watching and seeing another master piece of our Lord. As it grew dark, seeing street lights come on, and traffic having to turn on head lights. About like 9pm in the evening here and insects began chirping and birds became silent. But it was a beautiful sight as the halo effect was such a brilliant white light. Everyone around me was in awe and quiet so taken in by the beauty of it.
O Lord help us! here we go again.....I didn't see the Heavens open up and a white horse standing there, whose rider is called Faithful and True.
Jesus said about the ones who needed to see signs and wonders in order to believe on Him. He said, and I will quote, "Only a wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign.” Matthew 16:4 This was spoken to the pharisees who demanded to see a sign. Jesus sharply rebuked them and then told them that the only "sign” that would be given for people to believe is the sign of Jonah…in other words…the only "sign” that would be given for people to believe was the death, burial, and resurrection of the living God! Basically, Jesus was saying to the pharisees, as He still says to us today, that if you don’t believe based on the death, burial, and resurrection, then nothing else will make you truly believe. And that’s the way it still stands today. Yet many still get lured in to seeking after the supernatural signs and wonders and much of their faith is based upon such seeking. Dangerous.
It reminded me of the eclipse in the 90s when I was in grade school , I do not remember anything eventful happening around that time period.
C.h. Spurgeon :
. First of all, ECLIPSES ARE A PART OF GOD'S PLAN. In the olden times the ignorant people in England were frightened at an eclipse, they could not understand what it meant. They were quite sure that there was about to be a war, or a famine, or a terrible fire. They were absolutely certain that something fearful would happen; for they regarded it as being a prophecy of coming ills. They were totally at a loss to account for it, and knew nothing about the theory which now so satisfactorily sets our minds at rest. And you are aware, that till this day, in the East and in other parts of the world still in the ignorance of barbarism, an eclipse is looked upon as a very horrible and a very unaccountable thing. The Hindoos still believe that a great dragon swallows the sun, and they may be seen by thousands plunging into their sacred river, the Ganges, praying to the gods that they may set the sun at liberty, that the dragon may be compelled to disgorge him. Hundreds of other most stupid and absurd theories are still prominently believed and held in different parts of the world, and I believe that here amongst a very great number of us, an eclipse is looked upon as something contrary to the general law of nature. Now, beloved, all that understand anything of God's works, know very well that eclipses are as much a part of nature's laws as the regular sunshine, that an eclipse is no deviation from God's plan, but that it is a necessary consequence of the natural motion of the moon and the earth around the sun and each other, that there should at some stated periods be eclipses, and when we see the eclipse to-morrow, we shall not look upon it as a miracle or anything out of the ordinary course of God's providence, but we shall say it was a necessity involved in the very plan whereby God governs the earth.

Work had a cookout today and gave away the sunglasses. At first I didn't care about the eclipse but I work in Oak Ridge TN and saw how dark it was getting outside and had to go take a peek! The sun was almost gone and it was dusk out but when it was completely blocked, it went even more dark and was beautiful with a flickering white ring around the dark moon.
It was an experience that I praise God I was able to see. Nothing like watching it on TV later though all pictures are wonderful.
Thanks for sharing your experiences. I'm struck by the accounts of silence of birds, errie darkness and cooling temperatures, as well as the spectacle of the light ring around the moon. Must have been great to have seen it and hopefully it caused folk to think about how awesome creation is and the creator Himself.
I also like the article posted by PP of Spurgeon. Yes a part of God's natural providence, but like a stunning sunset or mountain scene, still awesome!
I know this is an old thread, but I had a bit to add. The earth experiences a minimum of two solar eclipses each year and two lunar eclipses each year. We can experience a maximum of seven total solar and lunar eclipses a year although this is fairly rare. So, I think some caution needs to be exercised in interpreting scriptures speaking of the sun going dark as being solar eclipses, or of solar eclipses being looked upon as signs. I was thinking about the day of Christ's crucifixion. Darkness was on the face of the earth for something like three hours. Yet totality in eclipses last only minutes. Apparently this darkening was supernatural, not natural as an eclipse would be. Just a thought.
Hooie.
