A generation of prophets arise!

sermonindex Sep 14, 2017

I have met so many people who think the church is just fine and everything is the way it has always been and anyone who says anything different is generally castigated. There is a sizable remnant who do see it and I thank God for them. They are, of course, rejected and generally hated because they are in effect, party poopers. They don't go along with the flow, they disrupt the flow, like a large stone in a flowing river, they cause turbulence and turbulence is uncomfortable and folks don't want to be uncomfortable. They are for the most part sleeping and they do not want to be woken up. And this remnant are constantly shouting " wake up you sleepy Christians, wake up, Christ is at the door and the bride must make herself ready to receive her King."

How many of us can relate to lying in bed, warm, comfortable and cozy. Its winter outside and you are wrapped up in your bed. Then the alarm goes of. Who likes the alarm? It compels us to arise, get up! It is not a pleasant noise, in fact it is designed to be a most unpleasant noise. If it were pleasant we would simply roll over and go back to sleep. The rising remnant of God are His alarm. He is sounding His warning that the time is short. The message is hated. Generations of movements such as the prosperity gospel and the word of faith movement have seeped into Christendom like a contagion. A cancerous contagion that has infected us.

The dream of many in the very early church was that they would be counted worthy of martyrdom for the sake of Jesus. How far we have fallen. This notion would almost always be rejected out of hand in our day. False prophets ply their trade in churches across the globe. They come and tell folks that this coming year will be better than the last, God has great things in store for you and breakthroughs will be yours. Now, you can add to that general theme, but it is always some variation of it..

The true prophet of God does not arise to tell folks things they want to hear, the very opposite is true. The prophets of God will always be rejected and despised. God is, in these last day, raising up a generation of prophets. Men and women who can see clearly the true state of things. They see that Jesus is on the horizon and it is a fire that burns in them. They see the approach of gross darkness prior to His return and they sound the alarm. They run from camp to camp and compel people to make sure they have their armor on, because they are going to need it. In most camps they find rejection, because even although it is written, they do not "see," and they do not see it because they do not want to see it. If you see it, I want to encourage you today.

God sees that you see. Yes you are misunderstood but that is part of the price. You find yourself isolated? Another part of the calling. You march to the beat of a different drummer? You speak of things the Lord has "shown," you and people look at you like you are an alien? Then my friend and brother and sister in Christ you are on the path that the Lord has called you to. It is of course a calling. No one fully volunteers to be unpopular and to be hated and despised and rejected even and especially within their own communities.

The remnant of God are the broken of God. He breaks them by His own hand. Yet He does it in cooperation with His children. It can be traced back to a prayer that might have went something like this. "Oh God please use me, whatever it takes for me to be useful to you, so be it Lord." Now, when you prayed that prayer you knew you touched heavens throne. What you did not fully realize was just how brutal the breaking would be. What you discovered in the midst of it was that despite the pain of it all God was faithful. You may have had long periods where you cried out "My God my God why has thou forsaken me," but always in your heart of hearts you knew He was right there and He was your very sanity. You knew that no matter the circumstance or seemingly never-ending series of circumstances that He was shaping you, refining you, cleansing you.

You were inevitably heading towards that place Paul found himself in when he said that he had learned to be content in ever situation. He had known what it was to abound in the things of life but he now knew what it was to be abased and still praise God. He knew how to have a full stomach and praise God and he knew how to be hungry and praise God. These are things that he learned, these are the lesson of God. At the start of that chapter in Philippians Paul starts out, and this is the point of the chapter to "stand fast in the Lord." To the remnant saint who is reading this I say stand fast in the Lord. You are no alone, you are loved and you are called.......bro Frank

Are you trying to say that all the "remnant" christians are prophets? or called to prophesy against what is deemed lukewarm christianity?

Would that make you a prophet brother Frank? I ask this in all honesty.

I think to have to polarize all of Christianity to either remnant or "not" remnant might be not the way to think but rather as Paul thought that we are part of a body and there are weaker and stronger members. Of course there are heretics and schismatics that leave from fellowship of believers and start new doctrines and strange ideas that was not received by believers through the centuries.

I see God puts a heavy emphasis on "leaders" those who serve the body and that they are more responsible for the people of God's condition. St. James calls believers who are "teachers" (a qualification of a leader) to be weary as they will be judged more harshly.

1 Peter 5 clearly puts the emphasis on servant leader "under" the head Shepherd Jesus. I do not see this plan changing in the end before He comes back. The last words of Jesus were to "leaders" of congregations in Asia Minor warning and encouraging.

Could there be a remnant of believers, meaning a smaller percentage of the whole who are true confessors in the midst of a very false and lukewarm belief in Christian in America, perhaps yes. But is that the general rule and principle to divide the New Testament believers through history, Scripturally "no".

The appeal should not be to Old Testament verses on Israel but how God speaks to His New Testament Church, the very "body of Christ,"

Great questions Greg, I saw the same thing; though after reading franks other postings on this subject I assumed his intention was to mark off a specific few who would be prophets of God...that few in my opinion would literally be 1 in a million.
What I do see is a gravitation of the true blood-bought in Church in our culture to imitate and live out the sacrifice and surrender of their lives similarly to of those in China, the Middle East, Russia etc. where persecution and oppression has been terrible. God's saint-building in those areas turns out men and women so above and beyond what is commonly turned out in our culture their spiritual fruitfulness and holiness stands in stark contrast to most everything in my own life and maybe others too.

My heart and my prayers are for ripping away any romantic or sentimental notions of the purity and holiness of such a remnant. I believe all of us who are born of God are only an "obedience" away from daily holiness resulting in a life of holiness and fruitfulness. My obedience is not some time in the future where God calls me to obey his word, that obedience started this morning when I got up and determined whether or not my mind and heart were set on God's priorities and kingdom or were they set on what piece of the world will please my flesh today.

I suppose there needs to be a lot more preaching of repentance and surrender...and I wouldn't disagree with that. But what I also expect to see are those who preach it to live it out. I for one point all fingers at myself here. Preaching the word of God is accompanied by power and God's presence when that vessel is going far beyond expressing a passionate word or sentiment toward God. God's presence in habits those words coming from men and women who's hearts are knitted to his in deed. Their obedience is one of normality, their sacrifices are always willing and with no need for anyone to see it or acknowledge it.
I'm desperately trying to stay away from describing something abstract...and desperately seeking to portray and demonstrate someone who lives and lives right now, right here full of the life and anointing of God.
This I believe is to be the "norm" of Christianity. When the prophetic enters into it, that calling and specific working of the Spirit in his/her life comes into play.

I don't see the revival of God's people being facilitated by a small rejected group of rebukers, I see God ( I hope) using and speaking through his crucified ones, his cross bearers, his truth lovers, his true worshippers. They will demonstrate life not just tell folks to repent to get it. These will show the lost what God is like when false doctrines are everywhere. These will show the love and mercy of God where the lost have no hope but only rejection, fears and discouragements. Jesus did this, in the midst of false teaching, legalism, false leaders, spiritual hatreds and hopeless oppression by the Romans Jesus entered into all of that...and by dying, sacrificing, loving, forgiving, bearing their burdens, carrying their griefs, patiently enduring their rejections, subterfuge continued forward seeing the end of his life...which is my life in him, your life in him.
This is the pattern of the apostles and prophets and must be our pattern as well.

Normally when I see someone post on any thread, "The Church" and paint it with such a wide brush, anything they say past that loses all credibility with me. Say my last name was Jones, and someone said the Jones are nut cases, instead of saying that Fred Jones is a nut case. In my opinion, anyone stereotyping the church, has some serious issues that they need to go to God with, and hopefully in a hurry. Believe it or not, there are still some good churches on the face of this earth, with some mighty fine people in them, that love the Lord, so please stop stereotyping the church. Also remember if you're a Christian, you're a part of that church that you're stereotyping, so that would include you too, so make sure you include yourself in your post.

Bro Frank
You and I are on the same page looking at the glorious body of Christ from our specific vantage points.

You and I both love the truth.

If I might be so bold, your original post is saying to me that the Church itself must have and should seek for being that prophetic voice in the world. Whether the body of believers speaks to the world via its anointed prophets and leaders or we speak to the world in all our individual testimonies and giftings. The body of Christ is God's prophet in the world, it is God's voice as it speaks by the Holy Spirit. I am not saying there are not anointed prophets of God today, nor am I saying we are all equally gifted and anointed in the prophetic, I am saying that Jesus transcends all the barriers that we and the world have erected that minimize the importance of truth when declared by even the newest and weakest Christian. (when I say Christian I mean true believer). So when the holiness of God's people declare the testimony of Jesus God's validation of it is promised. When the weakest and most ignorant of Believers speaks the truth in faith and love God validates it.
No doubt you and all the readers hear know this truth inside and out and my repetition of it may not be warranted, but I do want to encourage you, there is a voice within your voice as there is in mine that engages the world in power even though our fleshly voices are contemptible and poo-pooed.

On a website like this full agreement in everything is really a faith-appropriated agreement. I've never been to any website or even in any Church I've attended where my articulation of truth is satisfactory...even to those who love me and agree with me.

I found out long ago, I don't need any prophetic voice to be debated...all I needed was a voice period.

A dicotomy between the church and the world is biblical. The world will hate us. A dichotomy between Believers "favored" by God and those merely "tolerated" by Him is NOT. Believers have an inherent, God-breathed love for other believers. if they don't they are disciplined by other believers and ultimately, the Lord.

Just to make sure we are erring on the side of truth-- two-tier Christianity at the core generates a division between believers "in-the-know" and those who aren't that spiritual. It's bred by Gnosticism and a clergy-laity abomination that creates no more than hyper-spiritual pride in the heart of those who lack humility and love for the brethren.

To be fair: truth is not always accepted, even in the church.

I would never want to put words in a brothers mouth! I try to speak on this blessed site where saints gather respectively, not alot, and using whatever maturity Our Lord has allotted to me when I do. I honestly believe Brother Frank is discussing born again brethren versus those not yet born of the Holy Spirit/regenerated. I'm deeply thankful for all the older brethren past I can hear and learn from here, and each of you. It is such a blessing to see the different parts of Christ body talking and it allows us to learn much more from parts that we honestly need. Meeting brother Greg and Brother Frank I do believe they have different giftings in Christ body. However tough it is being different parts, praise be to Christ that His Spirit through His sacrifice has patched us all together; through Christ precious blood.

I hear your heart and your spirit Marvin, one of love and consideration. The Body of Christ (the remnant, true Christian, call it what you like, I call it the remnant) is a prophetic witness on the earth. As the times grow darker our witness grows stronger until there is total persecution and our witness is complete. God is raising up His people for that very purpose.

What a prophet does, whether it is individually or corporately, is speak to the state of things. This is his/their primary purpose. It has always been hated, especially by those for whom the prophet speaks to, whether that be an individual or a corporate body like a church or a nation.

"Prophetic ministry is not something you can take up. It is something you are. No academy can make you a prophet. Samuel instituted the schools of the prophets. They were for two purposes-one, the dissemination of religious knowledge, and the other, the writing up of the Chronicles of religious history. In Samuel's day there was no open vision;the people had lost the Word of God. They had to be taught the Word of God again and the Chronicles of the Word of God had to be written up and put on record for future generations and the schools of the prophets and the schools of the prophets were instituted for this purpose. But there is a great deal of difference between those academic prophets and the living anointed prophets. The academic prophets became members of a profession and swiftly degenerated into something unworthy. All the false prophets came from schools of prophets and were accepted publicly on that ground. They had been to college and were accepted. But they were false prophets. Going to a religious college does not of itself make you a prophet of God." (T.A Sparks)

We are living in the midst of the great falling away. Denominations and institutions are falling one by one to unthinkable wickedness in their embrace of gross sin. The darkness is closing in. Every genuine saint in the world will be a target for the enemy. Those who will oppress them , for the most part, will be none other than the institutions they have left or spoken to or called out, along with the state. Those who stand fast, those who endure, those who overcome will be a prophetic witness to the world. In the secular world a witness is called to present evidence in a case. If the prosecutor can discredit the witness, the witness has no power to testify. God is looking for witnesses, and just like the prophet " the vessel itself is the ministry and you cannot divide between the two." ...............bro Frank

ps Ravenhill famously imagined that out of all the professors of the Christian faith in America, only 7% were actually saved. I believe it to be at least three times that much. Whitfield famously sent out a letter saying that almost all those who occupied the pulpit in the Anglican church knew nothing of the new birth.

sermonindex Sep 15, 2017

A prophet is one who knows his times and what God is trying to say to the people of his times. What God says to His church at any given period depends altogether upon her moral and spiritual condition and upon the spiritual need of the hour. Religious leaders who continue mechanically to expound the Scriptures without regard to the current religious situation are no better than the scribes and lawyers of Jesus' day who faithfully parroted the Law without the remotest notion of what was going on around them spiritually. They fed the same diet to all and seemed wholly unaware that there was such a thing as meat in due season. The prophets never made that mistake nor wasted their efforts in that manner. They invariably spoke to the condition of the people of their times.

Today we need prophetic preachers; not preachers of prophecy merely, but preachers with a gift of prophecy. The word of wisdom is missing. We need the gift of discernment again in our pulpits. It is not ability to predict that we need, but the anointed eye, the power of spiritual penetration and interpretation, the ability to appraise the religious scene as viewed from God's position, and to tell us what is actually going on. Short testimony: I think it might be explanatory of some of what Frank and others have been saying.

Years back I went to a Church, a solid bible based Church, non-denominational, the congregation knew me and knew my wife well. I was invited to give the Sunday Sermon so in my way with what gifting's I have I prayed, sought the Lord and he gave me the word He wanted me to preach. The title "The Jesus we don't believe in". The main theme was expose in a confrontation way to the congregation a confrontational Jesus that is avoided. As I delivered the sermon I didn't get many amens and in fact a new couple who started attending walked out in the middle of it. Some others understood, but it was jarring to many of them. In the end the congregation sat there solemnly. I found out later the couple who left were very upset and told the pastor they would not return. The Pastor visited them to no avail. From that day forward my preaching from the pulpit was ended.
I was allowed to do much ministering in men's groups, home groups etc. but no more pulpit ministry.
Now, this is not a rare thing for me, I have done evangelism in many many Churches and in more than half of them I preach there once.
When confronted with a biblical Jesus, one that you have avoided in your Christian walk...its like meeting a stranger and for some that day I introduced a stranger to them. A Jesus who drove out money changers because they had turn the house of God into a house of merchandise. A Jesus who didn't receive the praise of men because he knew what was in men...but we love the praise of men when we are seeking favor from men and not God. A Jesus who taught men that their lives were at God's disposal not their own. A Jesus who required cross carrying, its no option and its the litmus test for everyone naming the name of Christ. If you cannot say you bear the cross, you cannot say you are a Christian...how many hear are lying to yourself?
These sermons win no friends and they garner no CD sales.
I have a whole ministry of this. I never chose any of this, I never signed up for it, I am not naturally confrontative, but for God's own purposes I am the thorn in every shoe I have been placed in.
I go to a meeting to hear a well known and supposedly gifted man of God speak. His sermon was pure heresy, the congregation was soaking it up, I stood up and told him this doctrine was condemned around the 3rd century and now you are foisting it upon these people. My wife about died with embarrassment. He said he would continue to speak this, I told him I will continue to resist it. I sat down.
This and dozens of situations like this over the years has been my lot. It is rare that I even mention it, but as we are discussing this kind of thing I just wanted you to know " I feel ya" if you stand for the truth amongst Christians and get "the look" and a mild dislike for coming to them.
God's ministry through me is what he wants, yes with its imperfections and my own weaknesses...but I can say truly I am what God has made me I cannot be something else.
I could spend another dozen posts relating all the various confrontations I've had...and so many of them were absolutely blessed beyond anything I could have dreamed of. Others...angry pastors, shocked congregations, angry leaders, called in to the elders and pastors to give account for myself. Yet, God in his abundant kindness to me who does not deserve any of it vindicated me every time.
Am I implying I am a prophet? No, I am saying without being a prophet, just being a Christian all this and more continually meets me.

If this is not explanatory...my apologies.

ӢӢӢAre you trying to say that all the "remnant" christians are prophets? or called to prophesy against what is deemed lukewarm christianity?ӢӢӢ

In a sense yes.  In Acts. Luke writes,.

”¢”¢”¢ And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; even on my male servants and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy.”¢”¢”¢ Acts 2:27-18 ESV

Under the New Covenant both men and women, baptized in the Holy Spirit, will prophesy. They will declare the mighty acts of God.  Particularly they will testify of Jesus.  John the Revelator writes,

”¢”¢”¢Â Then I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, "Do not do that; I am a fellow servant of yours and your brethren who hold the testimony of Jesus; worship God. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."”¢”¢”¢ Revelation 19:10 NASB

All born-again believers baptized in the Holy Spirit under the New Covenant will testify of Jesus in the spirit of prophecy.

I believe this will be something of a grassroots movement in the Spirit and no particular person will occupy the position of prophet.  Because all under the direction of the Holy Spirit will prophesy.  They certainly will testify of Jesus and declare his mighty work.

ӢӢӢ I see God puts a heavy emphasis on "leaders" those who serve the body and that they are more responsible for the people of God's condition. St. James calls believers who are "teachers" (a qualification of a leader) to be weary as they will be judged more harshly.ӢӢӢ

Yet Paul writes in Corithians,

”¢”¢”¢Â What is the outcome then, brethren? When you assemble, each one has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.”¢”¢”¢1 Corithians 14:26 NASB

In a New Covenant assembly under the direction of the holy spirit all can share. The brother sister who has received something from the Lord can share a song, a tongue, and interpretation, a prophetic word, something God has given them from the scriptures, a prayer, a prayer request, a spiritual song, and so forth. But the key is for the edification of the body.

The verse in 1 Corinthians suggest that this is at the body grassroots level.  It is what we called body life during the Jesus movement.  All may share. All may contribute. This is the operation of a Spirit filled new covenant fellowship.

But again, where men and women are prophesying. And we're men and women are sharing in a fellowship. This presupposes that they are baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit. For without the Holy Spirit none of the above can take place.

Simply my thoughts.

"Prophetic ministry is not something you can take up. It is something you are. No academy can make you a prophet.

Brother Frank,

I do not believe T. Austin Sparks was thinking that all believers are prophets in the end times, I might be mistaken. Also Tozer and Ravenhill I believe would not hold to that position either. Ravenhill believed for revival amongst denominations and worked with many of them, Tozer himself was a part of the Alliance denomination.

I have spoken with some leaders of the Anglican Church for instance and they believe there will be a correction amongst themselves and even they could possibly overcome the homosexual schism that is happening. Already there is talk of a new leader being set up for the entire anglican communion. And a new province has been made to replace the north american one because of its apostasy.

This is not to say that some denominations are totally apostasizng from the faith, but to say that "all" will be diminished and only a remnant will come out of all of them (40,000+) denominations does not seem right. As one brother alluded to there are many good local churches out there and I would dare to say "denominations also." Not perfect but being used of the Lord to share the Good News with the world.

I would also say there is a huge difference between north american christianity and the rest of the world. We are in a bubble and the problem is if we judge our reality in the West as the whole we will be no better then someone is the southern states who says KJV english is the only true bible, it only works in America but once you bring the thinking to the world-wide church it falls to the ground.

The Church around the the world is much healhier I believe then what we think, it is the American gospel and where it goes where the sickness has been felt.

I personally do not disgree with Ravenhill that a minority of believers are true believers in the West. But I would never apply this measuring stick to the whole world of believers. We must also leave place for those who are "lukewarm" and compromising as our lord told the church in Laodiceans to turn around. There are many in that boat in America, are they lost right now? no, but they seem to be in the valley of decision.

But again, where men and women are prophesying. And we're men and women are sharing in a fellowship. This presupposes that they are baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit. For without the Holy Spirit none of the above can take place.

So then we are saying it is between spirit-filled and not spirit filled? So those who are believers who are spirit-filled are the remnant and those who are not, are simply that "are not"?

This in a way is the distinction that came with the pentecostal movement, either you have this experience or you do not. In the end it was a denominational difference, to label it remnant or another term does not hide what it is doing.

God's true Church is not distinguished by a pentecostal experience but by being a holy people in the earth who confess and believe in a risen Saviour. Of course having the "Holy Spirit" is part of the belief of the Church, but the requirement of a second experience that accompanies with a manifestation was something birthed in the American church.

On the SermonIndex About us page we testify what the statement of faith is for the ministry and what I believe the historic church also held to:

Q. Is there a statement of faith for the website?
Answer. Being undenominational, we seek to minister to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity (Eph. 6:24), and to love all who love Him (John 15:12; 1 John 4:20-21). We hold to the historic faith of the Church in the Nicene Creed: We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and Apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Frank: I believe I see exactly what you are trying to say. Please corroborate if I am right or correct if I am wrong, but I believe this is your message.

The prophets recorded in scripture would speak the word of God to the people of Israel, warning them of their wickedness, their apathy, their idolatry, and tolling the bell warning them of what was coming.

In our day, there is coming a great shaking. The American church, by and large, is asleep at the wheel, or worse, in a state of idolatry that parallels where Israel was when the prophets gave warning.

It is time for men and women in the church, who are walking with God, to sound the alarm. It is time for them to arise and prophesy to the church, no matter the cost, that troublesome times are coming and that Christ is returning for a pure and spotless bride.

Is that a good nutshell?

I don't believe you are saying that every believer occupies the office of prophet, but that every believer who is hearing the voice of God can prophesy and speak forth what they are hearing, and that now is the time for them to do so, regardless of the cost. It is time for them to rise up in the spirit of a prophet and speak boldly to a church that has been fast asleep and often in bed with the world.

By God's grace, I have had the privilege of knowing an actual prophet and to be lovingly straightforward and disagreeable, they didn't have time to sit around writing and "talking" about being a prophet, they were too busy doing what a prophet does.

Matter of fact, the Lord told this prophet to never write a book about "being a prophet" and sadly, one day the spouse knew the prophets time was close because they stated, "The Lord said it's time, burn everything I've ever written down." And it was done.

We can talk all about what is and isn't a prophet but a true knows what God has called them too and they just do it because they are obedient to the end.

God bless,
Lisa

And the issues of the American church are not because they hold a view of inspiration as that of Bro Keith Daniels.

The issues of the American church are that they have a weak view of the Scriptures !

Even Osteens church worships the true God.
