humor....

sermonindex Dec 17, 2017

Is there something wrong to like a very clean humor? I have to confess that I enjoy clean humor but I had a conversation with my sister in Jesus Christ and she said to me that all those are foolishness and one of humor post I posted in facebook she said was very dangerous, the post was about something about the Bible that made in a humorous way and my heart about it was not to mock God but my sister in Jesus Christ said that it just made the "Word and Life of God to make light"....

Now I feel utterly convicted of my deeds because I really love humors but if it is really foolishness in the sight of the Lord of my love of clean humor as what my beloved sister in Christ shown me then I have to REPENT and accept a correction...

Evangeline asjs...

Is there something wrong to like a very clean humor?

Sister there is nothing wrong on good, clean humor. God created us with a sense of humor and a capacity to laugh. I think your sister in Christ might be a bit extreme in her views of humor.

We never want to joke about the things of eternity. But there's nothing wrong and looking at the things of life and enjoying a good laugh.

And there are things I find humorous in Scripture. I read about the account on John 9 of the man born blind whom Jesus healed. Then Jesus steps back and lets this man confront the Pharisees. The dialogue is a little humorous in places.

There was an account where Jesus healed a paralytic. But I often visualize the scene of Jesus in this room and then all of a sudden dirt coming down on the crowd there. Then a hole is dug in the roof and all of a sudden this man is let down in a pallet in front of Jesus. I often think that must have been a humorous situation.

Again we never want to be course in our humor about joking with other people or the things of Eternity. But there is nothing wrong in light, clean humor.

So my sister enjoy yourself and laugh. For God has created us with a sense of humor.

"Is there something wrong to like a very clean humor?"

No, there is not!

Any humor we use, we do best to keep God and His Word separate from such, as we'd not want to give any impression to anyone that we are making light of God or His Word.

We must examine ourselves in the sight of God, when others make their comments to us. They may be wrong or they may be right. But it's always a wise decision to bring all to Him.

Vance Havner was a great preacher with a great sense of humor.

I hope there’s nothing wrong with humor, because I truly think humor is my calling, and all my friends think so too. If you can appreciate good clean humor, check out Mark Lowry, he’s a Houston home boy. https://youtu.be/ZQuGizjoCTY

P.S. Personality, I think Facebook is a whole lot more dangerous than good clean humor, just my two cents. 🤙

Hmmm...must be a Texas brand of humor that just escapes me...:-/

Ecclesiastes 3:4, A time to weep and a time to laugh...

And watch this video. It's Paul Washer, and humour that is tasteful.

As a side note, the name Isaac means laughter.

Should Christians have a sense of humor? I need to think about this, and I will respond after I have had my third cup of coffee. (For Bear and Mr. Bill).

Some of the most spiritual, godly people that I know have a very good sense of humor, and you just enjoy being around them.

However, there is a big difference between humor and foolishness. The Word of God exhorts us to avoid foolish talking and jesting.

I remember when I worked at the plant, I would just have to turn away and shake my head from some of the jokes being said, and how much more unseemly this is when it comes out of a Christian's mouth.

Evangeline,

Who created our sense of humor? That's right, God! He is the creator of all things and everything He created is meant to be enjoyed. Laughter is the best medicine!

Here is an article of Norman Cousins who was very sick in 1964 and how he got healed (from wikipedia)...

"Told that he had one chance in 500 of recovery, Cousins developed his own recovery program. He took massive intravenous doses of Vitamin C and had self-induced bouts of laughter brought on by films of the television show Candid Camera, and by various comic films. His positive attitude was not new to him, however. He had always been an optimist, known for his kindness to others, and his robust love of life itself. "I made the joyous discovery that ten minutes of genuine belly laughter had an anesthetic effect and would give me at least two hours of pain-free sleep," he reported. "When the pain-killing effect of the laughter wore off, we would switch on the motion picture projector again and not infrequently, it would lead to another pain-free interval."[10] His struggle with that illness is detailed in his 1979 book Anatomy of an Illness as Perceived by the Patient.[9]"

So we see that "humor" and comedy that made him belly laugh every day had a hand in healing him. Ultimately, we know it was God that healed him but he found one of many secrets and it was laughter. :)

Now, first you need to take your conviction to the throne of God because you are not going to believe me or anyone else. But oh, if God, lets you know that He loves humor too and He created it to be enjoyed, you will be so much more satisfied than just blowing about with every wind of doctrine that people spew your way, my friend. Even on here, you will get varying opinions but the one you want to cherish will come from the Throne.

God bless you,
Lisa

Great post Ms. Lisa....We shouldn't judge someone just because the sin differently than us. I know God has a wonderful sense of humor, he reminds me every time I look in the mirror. :-)

If there is something wrong with clean humor, no one has told Todd Friel who hosts Wretched Radio.

He's good friends with Ray Comfort and Paul Washer. I can't imagine why Mr Comfort or Mr Washer haven't told him.
