Adoration by Madam Guyon (1648-1717)

sermonindex Dec 18, 2017

I love my Lord, but with no love of mine,
For I have none to give;
I love Thee, Lord, but all the love is Thine,
For by Thy love I live.
I am as nothing, and rejoice to be
Emptied, and lost, and swallowed up in Thee.

Thou, Lord, alone, art all Thy children need,
And there is none beside;
From Thee the streams of blessedness proceed,
In Thee the bless’d abide.
Fountain of life, and all-abounding grace,
Our source, our center, and our dwelling-place.

Amen. Madam Guyon wrote some books well worth reading. A Short Method Of Prayer is excellent. Also her biography by Jan Johnson.

Why quote Madame Guyon ?
"Modern critics say that Jeanne-Marie used self-hypnosis to achieve her "spiritual" states and trances and point out that she used "automatic writing" which suggests spiritualist practice. They wonder that she had so little to say about Christ (in proportion to the total number of words she wrote). But among some Protestants in Northern Europe and some Methodists in America, her mysticism is highly regarded..." (from Christianity.com)

Markus, instead of reading what critics say, why not let her speak for herself? If you read her works, she speaks of Christ constantly, and of the necessity of total surrender to Him. She spent years in the Bastille in France and her works were banned by the pope because she sounded "too protestant" to him.

God bless friend.

I have read several of Guyon's book. The notion that she had little to say about Jesus is just plainly a false accusation by folks who no doubt had an agenda..........bro Frank
