- A bruised reed
- A smoldering wick
Isaiah 42:3
A bruised reed is a picture of one who has been emotionally & spiritually wounded...near the point of being broken beyond repair.
A smoldering wick represents a life whose fire has gone out and whose fervent spiritual life is almost a memory. Yet, a little heat remains.
If you are either of these individuals, you must know how Jesus intends to handle you. Isaiah spoke of Jesus in this way: "A bruised reed He will not break, & a smoldering wick He will not snuff out." Isaiah 42:3
Nothing would be easier than finishing you off and throwing you away...but not Jesus. Isaiah shows us the gentle compassion of Christ toward the wounded and the weak.
Isaiah later prophesied that Jesus would bind up the broken hearted and restore the spiritual life of those sitting among the ashes. Isaiah 61:3
I have personally been both the bruised reed and the smoldering wick. To make matters worse, I have been both at the same time. Let me tell you, God is in the restoration business. He can put you back together again. He can light the fire again.
If you will come to Him...He will handle you carefully and patiently until you are whole again.
