Chief Justice Kennedy is retiring. He usually voted moderately or conservatively and occasionally voted with the liberal wing of the court. If Trump can get another nominee confirmed he can lock in a conservative leaning court. Then Roe vs. Wade can be challenged again. A bitter fight and controversial struggle like never seen before over who Trump nominates will likely take place.

Trey is retiring to go home and spend more quality time with his family which he says has been sorely lacking since his tenure in Washington.
Maybe, but I did see this....
"I will not be filing for re-election to Congress nor seeking any other political or elected office; instead I will be returning to the justice system,” Gowdy said in a statement.
He’s young enough to be an interesting choice ;)
