When people say things like the holy spirit can contradict the scriptures or the holy spirit told me this and it goes 100 percent against the Bible

The holy spirit is a person of the Godhead , the trinity.

Acts 5
1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

In verse 3 it says you have lied into the holy ghost and you have lied to god and then he killed them

That does not happen that often nowadays

The Bible talks about if we love jesuss words he will send the holy spirit to abide with us.
This is what I do not understand about modern day Christianianity is that

He will teach you all things where is the teaching going on in the church today if the holy spirit is truly among us ?

Joh 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

Where is the spirit of truth if the holy spirit is truly amongst us

Gal 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would

In our day worldly fleshly entertainment is out forth as the holy spirit which is completely anti biblical

If we take a good look at the many different variations of what the holy spirit it is definitely not the holy spirit

1Jn 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him

1Jn 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world

I believe that God can speak for today I am not cessationlist but most of what comes from people who have the holy spirit reminds me of what Jeremiah and ezekial warned against.

Jeremiah and ezekial loved the people they knew destruction was coming they warned them to flee but the people just didn't listen

One thing that does not tend to get mentioned is that the sheer abhorance that the way that the third person of the trinity is being used for all types of ungodly things in his name.

John 16

Where are we being taught that the holy spirit is to convict of sin , righteous and judgement yet to come

John 16
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

He shall glorify Jesus most people it tends to glorify them or there ministry and not Jesus

Who has ever taught that the Holy Spirit can contradict the Scriptures? Who and when? It confuses me. I've never heard one Christian ever say this or ever heard one Christian teacher teach this.

There are examples where revelation can be above the aspect of revealed scripture .
The holy spirit I would say is about the most missued person of the trinity as people have done so many crazy things in the name of the holy spirit from people like Rick Warren to others.
Such as movements like the Toronto blessing movement, I think throughout christiandom he is the most missued member of the trinity

What is Rick Warren guilty of? I don't know myself. Does he teach that the Holy Spirit can contradict Scripture? I don't remember him being involved in any bizarre revivals.

How many people do you know who are into Todd White and bethel ?

A few but I left them behind a good while ago. I tried to point out the issues with that stream but it fell on deaf ears. Since we moved five years ago I personally have not run into anyone in that stream.

I can tell you one thing about Todd White though because I saw him in action in person several years back. He has an infectious love for the Lord and is extremely bold in approaching strangers on the street and ministering to them. His faith is amazing. I wish I had 1/10 of his gumption.

Yes I think he can truly love the Lord and be wrong on some points. No one can be sure they have everything 100% right.

There are millions of folks filling pews with solid doctrine but zero love for people.

Maybe the megachurch trend missed you by as most people such as in Joel osteens church do not sit in his church because of sound doctrine or elevation church under Steven furtick
You do a search of the most popular churches and you would find that people are filling pews for the prosperity gospel and entertainment in places like Hillsong, bethel and elevation church.

There are not millions of people filling churches due to sound doctrine there is no evidence for that.

I would denote that he can have no love of the lord , there are millions of people in pews going to hell because they do not know the gospel due to the entertainment and people pleasing but not god pleasing

These pastors love neither god nor man

There are no churches being filled up because of sound doctrine

There are churches and pastors everywhere preaching sound doctrine. Every pastor I have been under since the 70s has loved the word and sound doctrine. Respectfully, it seems a bit wrong to call out the people you have and make it sound like one size fits all churches everywhere. Megachurches are not inherently evil just because they are large. Three thousand souls were added to the early church in one day. If there were no megachurches folks would be saying why aren't there any large churches. Large churches rise up and then believers start condemning them. Dang if you don't and dang if you do! Not necessarily the ones you spoke of but I would venture many large churches do preach sound doctrine. The Lord's hand is not so short.

I was just using data such as the most popular podcasts on say apple or the most bestselling books in Christianianity at this present time to prove that we do not have say bible commentaries in the Christian bestseller list instead we have self help books and prosperity books and NAR books.
So if you do a survey of what Christian literature has been selling.

Charles spurgeon had a mega church but he was preaching sound doctrine

Name me one megachurch that preaches sound doctrine as I can only think of maybe one or two out of thousands

To me the evidence from things like books sales , podcasts and other things proves that most of the church is not into sound doctrine

Jim Cymbala is the featured speaker right now on SI. What about his church? What about Carter Conlon and his congregation? What about the large Reformed and Baptist churches across the land who preach and teach sound doctrine? There are pastors in almost every city and town in America and elsewhere who preach sound doctrine and have never shied away from it.

Most of the reformed churches in the UK are terrible and there has been the social gospel controversy recently with Tim Keller and Albert mohler.

I am not a Calvinist but I respected people like this r c Sproul before he died and preachers like David Wilkerson

I would agree with people like carter conlon , I would say there are small congregations scattered throughout the country
but who is buying these heretical books

I also have problems with some of the Baptist churches as lots of them have been infiltrated by NAR theology .

I understand what you are trying to say.

1. There are some well-known churches doing things in the name of the Holy Spirit that do not fit with the Biblical description of Who the Holy Spirit is or what He does.

2. In some cases, "revelations" from people who claim to speak through the Holy Spirit ("prophets" and "prophesying") are given more weight than the Word of God itself. I know some people who seek this type of revelation because they want a word from God that is personal to them. But they are giving extra-Biblical "revelation" a lot of importance, instead of learning what God has to say to them in the scripture and in prayer.

3. Often these people claiming to speak through the Holy Spirit are wrong. Therefore, it seems that they are saying that the Holy Spirit can contradict the scriptures.

There is unfortunately a lot of abuse of the Holy Spirit. That is because many (most?) in those (our?) churches are biblically illiterate and they accept a lot of this because they are not aware it contradicts the Bible. Also, many read the Bible and interpret it based on their experience and not what the Word actually says.

In those churches, there are many who are open to truth, if it is given.

For those churches/pastors that we see are misusing/abusing the Holy Spirit, I believe that we who can see it are called to pray that the Truth of Christ and of the Holy Spirit be revealed to them and that they turn from their error. If any is acting on purpose to deceive, we ought to pray that they be revealed, exposed, discredited, and removed.
