Rev 20:13
And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
Does anyone have an understanding of this?

"Hell” is a bad translation. It should be translated as Sheol or the grave.
In other words wherever dead bodies may be, on land or in the sea, they will be delivered up for judgment.
This is because dying at sea was, and still is, an everyday reality. The people had been thrown overboard because of the waves or their ships sunk and they were unable about to make it back to land. A contemporary example would be those who died in the Titanic.

Your explanation is obvious when thinking of dead bodies (corpses), but I understand it as talking about souls.
In heaven there will be no sea - "Also there was no more sea” (Rev. 21:1).
Just wondering.
