IS THE LORD HAPPY
'Is the Lord happy with thee,
Wispered a voice I know not,
'Is not thy heart full of iniquity?
'Upon thee, surely is God's wrath!'
Refrain:
Yes I know! But I have one,
Who ever liveth to plead for me!
He is my plea! He is my horn!
By Him, from all guilts, I am free!
'Behold thy very services to God,'
Me keep hearing a voice within,
'They are all flat, fireless and dull:
Can God take such services in?'
'Search the scripture: Oh enquire
At the apostles' inn, thou'd keep,
That thou, unlike them, hast no fire,
A mark and token of true postleship!'
'I would bring thee to thy master
In the wilderness: see how He prayed
With fervency, see! Thou art a jester,
If thou think thou're like Him made!'
'I was arch over the host of heaven;
The face of Jehovah I looked upon:
But a single slip made me uneven
With Him: wilt thou get His pardon?'
'Know' I retort back, 'thou evil crook,
Jesus is my wisdom, labour, horn,
Rigtheosness, justifier, He's my brook,
He is me standing before God's throne!'
'God forbid I boast in anything, save
His cross! On His good credit I stand:
Free from the power of sin and the grave:
Other aids are but tottering strand!'
'Jacob-like may be the sound of my voice,
But I smell and feel lke my brother, Jesus,
A field blessed by the God of all mercies!
He'll welcome me surely because of Jesus!'
Amen
