This is just express my concern about this statement:

Many people can quote and misunderstand it out of context.

The thing is, that situation, the supposed spiritual abandonment, can cause unnecessary mental and spiritual torture to well-meaning christians with a weak conscience resulting to severe mental disorders like Obsession-compulsion, bipolar condition, personality, and developmental disorders, or even suicidal tendencies.

If you have to repent, repent from where you are and ask the Lord to direct your path and help you strongly along the way for without Him we will but fail. Let the Lord answer your prayers and the burdens of your heart according to His grace and mercy, for who are we but a dust, without His kindness, we will but perish.

The christian race is not that all easy, but the Lord is good and merciful, this is our hope and this gospel shall not fail us.

The Lord has promised to never leave or forsake you, fix your mind on Jesus and walk. The epistles are full of awesome promises and instructions to live the awesome overcoming life, get into Gods presence and get to know him, he has an awesome kind personality and he is good to be with and wants us to come to him more then we want to go to him. Just think on what Jesus has done for us, he came to this fallen world, to redeem us back to himself, we can’t comprehend what he has done for us, but we can see the heart of God through this, and realize how much he has paid and go into his presence and we can do this because of who he is, not because we are worthy. Jesus has opened the way for us and we can boldly come into the throne room of grace, we have a great high priest interceding for us, who can sympathize with our weaknesses. Get to know God as your Father, get to know him through the blood of Jesus, through the death and resurrection of Christ. I can tell you, if you put religious views aside and get personal with the Lord through the new covenant, and not based on your own so called goodness, it will transform your life, and many issues and backslidings, and frustrations and never feeling good enough will start to fade out.
