1986 Prophesy of David Wilkerson Concerning Plague

"I see a plague coming on the world, and the bars, churches and government will shut down. The plague will hit New York City and shake it like it has never been shaken. The plague is going to force prayerless believers into radical prayer and into their Bibles, and repentance will be the cry from the man of God in the pulpit. And out of it will come a third Great Awakening that will sweep America and the world."

Brother David wrote a book called "The Vision" when he first warned of coming calamities and other things and he took some heat for publishing what was said to be a untimely and scary word. He concluded this book with the exhortation GOD HAS EVERYTHING UNDER CONTROL.

He also wrote a book titled "The Sound of Approaching Hoofbeats" in which he warned that the church was about o be purged first then the rest of society.

It might be in one of these two books.

I did some searching on the internet to find more about this 1986 prophecy and found that these were notes Mike Evans took of a David Wilkerson meeting held in a hotel in Dallas/Fort Worth. In addition to what was shared above Mike Evans also gives more backstory and further details:

As I was in prayer, studying and preparing in my prayer room, I picked up an old Bible and out of it fell a note I had forgotten I even had. As I read it, I found myself trembling and crying.

The note was from a breakfast I had with Dr. David Wilkerson in 1986 at the Embassy Suites near the Dallas Fort-Worth Airport. He showed me a letter addressed to Rev. Richard Dortch who was running PTL under Jim Bakker. It said, "Rev. Dortch, within 12 months from the date of this letter, the judgment of God will fall on PTL. You are fornicating with brick and stone. Flee now and repent. Bats will fly through the empty building.” A month later, I was with Dortch, and he mocked David’s letter saying, "if I fornicate, it will not be with brick and stone. These attacks aren’t against me or Jim Bakker, they are against God.” It was exactly 12 months to the day that The Charlotte Observer broke the PTL scandal. Twelve months to the day of Dave Wilkerson’s letter.

In that same meeting as I was meeting with Brother Wilkerson, he opened his Bible to Isaiah 24. He said, "every house will be shut up, and no one will be coming or going. The city of confusion is broken down, and every house is shut up that no man may come in.” Isaiah 24:10 says that. The prophet Isaiah describes in Isaiah 24:12, all entrances and exits to the city are gone. In other words, there will be no place to escape. God has shown me that a calamity is coming beyond humankind’s capacity to respond. This judgment will devastate the world’s economies. Every restaurant and bar will be shut down, and all the drinking and merrymaking will end. All entertainment and churches will be shut down.

Isaiah says in the 24th chapter, verse 9, "they shall not drink wine with a song.” The mirth of the land is gone. All sports will be shut down. But the prophet Isaiah also saw a great shaking of the olive tree coming in 24:13. In other words, God’s shaking everything that can be shaken. It’s a time of overwhelming darkness as He exposes the world’s idols. But in the midst of this terrible shaking, a song is heard, a chorus of voices singing praises to the majesty of God. "They shall lift up their voice, they shall sing for the majesty of the Lord, they shall cry aloud from the sea,” (Isaiah 24:14). That’s the beginning of the Great Awakening.

And then in 24:15-16 it says, "from the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs, even glory to the righteous.” Lukewarm Believers are going to come back to their first love. Their souls will be flooded with godly repentance, falling on their knees with repentance. There will be a great awakening. The song of revival will be heard from the uttermost parts of the earth. From Israel to Indonesia, Africa, from the east to the west, from the north to the south, from China to Arab lands, all parts of the earth will rise up in the midst of this plague. They’ll be feasting on the Word. The idols are coming down. They will see in horror the idols they have worshiped that have blocked them from the power of the Holy Spirit...idols they put their faith in. The greatest cry of repentance will come from God’s remnant.

All true prophets speak from the Lord, who calls the Church to repent. The false prophets prophesy to itching ears, saying that all is well, and those that listen to them go back to sleep.

True Prophets give the word thay hear from the Lord,

Sometimes the word is of repentance,sometimes of urgency or sometimes of comfort but not all the time is it of repentance as the post suggests.

If a Prophet speaks a word of Repentance or persecution and the Lord didnt say Repentance or persecution then that Prophet is making a prophesy to itching ears "saying all is not well" when it is as well or vica verca

But one who prophesies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation

All true prophesy is for edification ,exhortation and consolation and just because a prophet doesnt give a word of repentance but of comfort doesnt make him not a True Prophet

I do not submit posts according to popular opinion or according to which way the wind is blowing.

The Word of God teaches that there will be tribulation and persecution in the last days, and the scripture also indicates that there will be a last days revival that will bring in the harvest.

I believe that revival and awakening are coming. God is moving all over the world, but there will never be revival without prayer and intercession, and there will never be revival without the repentance of God's people.

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." (2 Chronicles 7:14).

I was mainly commenting on your qualification of what makes a True Prophet and saying that always the Prophet has to speak what he hears from God whether it be comfort or repentance Im sure you will agree.

Lets get this right because most people on SI get it wrong
God teaches that there will be "A Great Tribulation" in the last days not tribulation.Persecution we always have sometimes stronger than others but lets not mix up the two things Persecution and the Great Tribulation are are very different things.The Great Tribulation is a specific period of time set out which mainly deals with God pouring out his wrath,

Just want to add something for you to consider. The Isaiah 24 passage, as David Wilkerson himself acknowledges is similar in many respects to Revelation 17, 18 and 19. Of course the Revelation passages are the Final Judgement (I'm not saying that's where we are )

The Revelation 17,18 and 19 passages describe a plague coming against "Babylon" and all the enjoyments of her excesses will come to an immediate halt. At that time, God calls out to His people and saints " come out from her my people" so that you do not suffer the judgement. Then, you have the merchants and sea farers who got wealthy from her sexual immorality and selfish luxurious indulgences weeping over their loss.

Finally, you have a multitude of saints celebrating and singing over the righteous judgments of God as Babylon is destroyed by God. i'm not saying David Wilkerson is wrong as the call of God to His people to revive themselves and come out from the indulgences that Babylon is guilty of is a "revival founded in repentance of God's people as they stop their sexual immorality and covetousness". However, Isaiah 24 properly read in tandem with Revelation 18 is very much a revival of God's people passage occurring just prior to a very end times judgement.

What I think is important to note is the application of the Revelation passage even if this is not an end times scenario. God has severely judged in the past in several instances in Scripture specifically against sexual immorality and covetousness. You see that in the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah and in the destruction of Jerusalem.

Further, Paul warned the Corinthian church not to be like the Israelite people who committed sexual immorality when Moses was on the mountain and also were covetous in the wilderness when they begged to go back to the foods of Egypt and complained about the manna and begged for meat instead. God sent serpents and plagues upon them for their sexual immorality and covetousness.

Likewise, Paul told the Corinthians and Ephesians that sexual immorality and covetousness should not even be named among Christians nor should we associate with a so called brother who was guilty of either. Obviously, God hates sexual immorality and covetousness in the world but He especially hates it among His people.

Perhaps, God is through this virus putting His finger on the same problems/sins. If you had to name two sins that the church has struggled more with than any others it is sexual immorality ( pornography ) and covetousness.

Just to be clear covetousness, which the church generally has left undefined because it is so damning to our lifestyle, is of 3 types. First, when we covet our neighbors property...think King David. Second, when we covet more than God has provided and are not "content" and go after an abundance of possessions. Finally, when we hoard the abundance that God has provided to us which he provided for the needy ..... think the parable of the farmer who built bigger barns for his future instead of giving to the needy in the present.

The last thing I want to point out is that in Revelation 18 there is a group of people who did not participate in the sexual immorality nor did they participate in the acquisition and indulgence of luxury. This group merely traded in these things to feed the sinful lusts of Babylon and got wealthy as merchants. They aren't in the saint group so they are outside with Babylon. This is the scary part of the story. How many people are merchants and tradesmen that make their fortunes selling and trading in luxury and feeding covetousness in our culture?

All that to say, I have no doubt that David Wilkerson is correct. I only think that perhaps the singing and new song he heard in his vision is the one of the saints singing and crying out Hallelujah to God because His judgements of Babylon are right and true which is shocking to us in our current state as a lot of the people we know and care about are "Babylon" as we once were.

I think God is shouting now one way or the other...."come out from her my people, stop participating and making yourselves wealthy from her immorality" Whether this is His final shout or an interim one, I feel confident that sexual immorality and covetousness are the sins of this age and the sin of all ages since the beginning. Lust of the eyes, Lust of the flesh and the Pride of life.

I have rarely heard any church address or even rightly define covetousness. Sexual immorality is easier. Covetousness is harder because it has become a comfortable part of the Christian's life.

It doesn't surprise me that TSC would discount this as being from David Wilkerson. Yes, there is no RECORD of him saying this in any official writing or RECORDED speaking engagements. TSC does couch their response in a very tentative way ("probably spurious", "to the best of our knowledge", "he said similar things"). I applaud TSC for not rejecting it outright. It was Mike Evans who wrote down what David said in a 1986 meeting in Dallas and apparently it wasn't recorded. That was a long time ago and I bet that any of the attendees who are alive today can't remember anything from that meeting. I just want you to look at the salient points of what was said:

To me, it has that ring of truth. A great shaking and calamity that causes a heart and soul searching that leads to great conviction and then repentance and crying out to God for mercy and restoration. Isn't this found in the Bible over and over? I wasn't at the meeting in Dallas in 1986 but the message given sounds like the truth.

Greg, did you even listen to the teaching by Mike Evans that he shared entitled "A Great Awakening Is Coming"? In that message Mike Evans shared that he was having breakfast with David Wilkerson in Dallas, when David Wilkerson showed him a letter that he wrote to Richard Dortch who was running PTL with Jim Baker that contained in it a prophetic word concerning the exposure and fall of that ministry, which happened 12 months to the day that Brother Wilkerson wrote the letter. Then Mike Evans goes on to share that David Wilkerson said something else to him that he wrote down that contained the prophetic word about a plague that would affect the world shutting down bars and churches. He said the plague would hit New York City and shake it like it has never been shaken. He also said the plague is going to force prayerless believers into radical prayer, into their bibles, and repentance will be the cry from true men of God in the pulpit, and out of it will come a third Great Awakening that will sweep America and the world.

Now either David Wilkerson said this or Mike Evans is a liar. We know that David Wilkerson was a prophet of God whose primary message was repentance. The same message that Mike Evans gave, and the same message that is taught in both the Old and New Testament.

I believe that David Wilkerson said this, and much of it is already coming to past, and there are Christians all over the world that are praying and repenting right now. There are unbelievers that are shut up in their homes and God is dealing with them. There are prayer calls going on all over the nation that some here on this forum would not even spend the time of day getting on because they don't agree with certain things that some of the leaders are promoting, maybe they even speak in tongues, so it can't be of God in their minds.

On most of the prayer calls that I have been on, and yes I have opened up an account and host prayer calls, but what I am seeing is much repentance going on for our own sins and the sins of our nation. I believe the Word of God, the promises of God. The history of great revivals are filled with testimonies of a church that has gone astray, and a society that is utterly corrupt. But because Jesus Christ is still Head over His Church and He intercedes for her day and night, and because the Holy Spirit has moved on the hearts of the saints to humble themselves and pray, to seek the face of God, and turn from their wicked says, and when even just a few have heard the voice of God and became intercessors, the Lord responded to their prayers by sending mighty revivals that swept whole nations and sometimes even the world. There were Great Awakenings that took place. Will God do it again? I believe that He will.

I pray for brothers and sisters to feel GODS heart and to be in unity to see one another as He does and to see commonalities not differences in JESUS name. May HIS Mercy fall upon us first and then flow out of us in Jesus NAME
