2 Cor 10:4 For the weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood], but they are mighty before God for the overthrow and destruction of strongholds,
5 [Inasmuch as we] refute arguments and theories and reasonings and every proud and lofty thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God; and we lead every thought and purpose away captive into the obedience of Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One),
6 Being in readiness to punish every [insubordinate for his] disobedience, when your own submission and obedience [as a church] are fully secured and complete.
I'm relatively sure, that most of you are familiar with vs 4. Tragically, it is too often quoted by itself. For our battle is with deception, the true stronghold of our souls. Our thoughts....... and our purposes..... are opposed to OBEDIENCE. Obedience as exampled by our LORD and SAVIOR. v5
What about vs 6? Not only are we called to be obedient, but also to recognize when anyone else is not obedient and PUNISH THEM! The LORD knows there is no discipline today, in what is called "church". Obedience must be adhered too, but not to the word and knowledge of HAYAH. Oh no. We insist that others adhere to OUR RULES rather than HIS. We like to look at their behavior and quickly cast stones, but refuse to take into account the STRONG HOLD that DISOBEDIENCE and COMPROMISE HAVE in our own hearts and lives. We want to rail others about their behavior, yet live in careless (care less) disregard for our own submission and obedience.
And what is this "punishment" we are to invoke? Paul plainly tells us in Romans.
Romans 16:17 I appeal to you, brethren, to be on your guard concerning those who create dissensions and difficulties and cause divisions, in opposition to the doctrine (the teaching) which you have been taught. [I warn you to turn aside from them, to] avoid them.
AVOID THEM!
I have to understand that "doctrine" here is the same as TRUTH. And what is this TRUTH? Next 2 verses.
18 For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ but their own appetites and base desires, and by ingratiating and flattering speech, they beguile the hearts of the unsuspecting and simpleminded [people].
The unsuspecting, those who are IGNORANT when it comes to the knowledge of HAYAH. They simply will not read the scriptures daily, to see if these thing are TRUE! Small wonder the evangelicals of our day, and Paul's day, are so easily overrun...... FROM THE PULPIT!
19 For while your loyalty and obedience is known to all, so that I rejoice over you, I would have you well versed and wise as to what is good and innocent and guileless as to what is evil.
I would that you were very careful to discern the good from the evil, (all deception is evil) and to show your wisdom, by carefully avoiding the one and clinging to the other.
So how do we recognize, know, and understand when someone is mature enough to make such a judgment, and invoke said "punishment"? Why, vs 6 plainly tells us, beloved. It says:
"when your own submission and obedience [as a church] are fully secured and complete."
When our SUBMISSION to the MESSIAH, and, our obedience individually and collectively, is without spot or blemish. Until then?
.......no need to look beyond your own mirror........
