READINESS TO PUNISH

O
Onesimus4God Jan 22, 2021

2 Cor 10:4 For the weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood], but they are mighty before God for the overthrow and destruction of strongholds,

5 [Inasmuch as we] refute arguments and theories and reasonings and every proud and lofty thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God; and we lead every thought and purpose away captive into the obedience of Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One),

6 Being in readiness to punish every [insubordinate for his] disobedience, when your own submission and obedience [as a church] are fully secured and complete.

I'm relatively sure, that most of you are familiar with vs 4. Tragically, it is too often quoted by itself. For our battle is with deception, the true stronghold of our souls. Our thoughts....... and our purposes..... are opposed to OBEDIENCE. Obedience as exampled by our LORD and SAVIOR. v5

What about vs 6? Not only are we called to be obedient, but also to recognize when anyone else is not obedient and PUNISH THEM! The LORD knows there is no discipline today, in what is called "church". Obedience must be adhered too, but not to the word and knowledge of HAYAH. Oh no. We insist that others adhere to OUR RULES rather than HIS. We like to look at their behavior and quickly cast stones, but refuse to take into account the STRONG HOLD that DISOBEDIENCE and COMPROMISE HAVE in our own hearts and lives. We want to rail others about their behavior, yet live in careless (care less) disregard for our own submission and obedience.

And what is this "punishment" we are to invoke? Paul plainly tells us in Romans.

Romans 16:17 I appeal to you, brethren, to be on your guard concerning those who create dissensions and difficulties and cause divisions, in opposition to the doctrine (the teaching) which you have been taught. [I warn you to turn aside from them, to] avoid them.

AVOID THEM!

I have to understand that "doctrine" here is the same as TRUTH. And what is this TRUTH? Next 2 verses.

18 For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ but their own appetites and base desires, and by ingratiating and flattering speech, they beguile the hearts of the unsuspecting and simpleminded [people].

The unsuspecting, those who are IGNORANT when it comes to the knowledge of HAYAH. They simply will not read the scriptures daily, to see if these thing are TRUE! Small wonder the evangelicals of our day, and Paul's day, are so easily overrun...... FROM THE PULPIT!

19 For while your loyalty and obedience is known to all, so that I rejoice over you, I would have you well versed and wise as to what is good and innocent and guileless as to what is evil.

I would that you were very careful to discern the good from the evil, (all deception is evil) and to show your wisdom, by carefully avoiding the one and clinging to the other.

So how do we recognize, know, and understand when someone is mature enough to make such a judgment, and invoke said "punishment"? Why, vs 6 plainly tells us, beloved. It says:

"when your own submission and obedience [as a church] are fully secured and complete."

When our SUBMISSION to the MESSIAH, and, our obedience individually and collectively, is without spot or blemish. Until then?

.......no need to look beyond your own mirror........

Thanks for sharing.
There is a lot in your post that resonate with me.
I am just cautious In acknowledging your input because of this whole HAYAH thing of yours.
I looked it up and find its use in the Bible to not corresponding to God’s name at all.

Gen 3:1 - Now the serpent was (HAYAH) H1961 more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

What’s up with this?

Blessings

Gen 3:1  Now the serpentH5175 wasH1961 more subtilH6175 than anyH4480 H3605 beastH2416 of the fieldH7704 whichH834 the LORDH3068 GodH430 had made.H6213 And he saidH559 untoH413 the woman,H802 Yea,H637 H3588 hath GodH430 said,H559 Ye shall notH3808 eatH398 of everyH4480 H3605 treeH6086 of the garden?H1588

I'm not sure how H1961 was assigned to the word was in this text. Thank you for sharing that.

YEHOVAH defines the term in Ex 3.....

Exo 3:14  And GodH430 saidH559 untoH413 Moses,H4872 I AMH1961 THATH834 I AM:H1961 and he said,H559 ThusH3541 shalt thou sayH559 unto the childrenH1121 of Israel,H3478 I AMH1961 hath sentH7971 me untoH413 you.

Now that's a FACT unchangeable.

Years ago, I began to wonder, where in the Bible did YEHOVAH speak to man, and distinguish HIMself by name? I can find no earlier text than here in Ex 3.

I AM (HAYAH). Israel and the JEWS alike were terrified of using this name. We don't even know that trying to speak it is correct, because no one ever spoke it. But it is written this way in the translation and it is be best we have.

My purpose in using it, is respect and honor. HE said HAYAH, I AM. So be it. I'm not trying to impress anyone, not even my ELOHIM (GOD). My heart is to reverentially respect HIM, and this includes what I write.

If you are put off about that, it is not my intent. But neither will I apologize for it's reverential use. Again, how it got into Gen 3:1 is beyond me. But I will look into it. Thank you again for pointing that out. :)

So I stand corrected, in that H1961 is a verb, ie הָיָה hâyâh, haw-yaw; a primitive root (compare H1933); to exist, i.e. be or become, come to pass (always emphatic, and not a mere copula or auxiliary):””beacon, × altogether, be(-come), accomplished, committed, like), break, cause, come (to pass), do, faint, fall, follow, happen, × have, last, pertain, quit (one-) self, require, × use.

In it's use in Ex 3:14 it denotes the entirity of what can be said of the MOST HIGH, I AM. Without form definition, or limit. HE is. YEHOVAH - self existing. There is only ONE self existing ONE.

Again, thank you for a most stimulating question. :)

Hi
You are welcome.
I was curious about your use of the word and saw that it was used 75 times in various ways, rarely in relation to God’s name.

Gen 1:2 - And the earth was H1961 without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

Gen 1:3 - And God said, Let there be H1961 light: and there was light.

Gen 1:29 - And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be H1961 for meat.

Maybe you should just let it go Brother.
Blessings.

Thanks. I wished we could have addressed this without rabbit trailing the original post. :(

If HAYAH is the Hebrew name of God or the Great I AM, shouldn't we remember that is the Hebrew name and is pronounced by using the Hebrew dialect?

I use the word God or Lord when referring to God then I am using the English dialect because I do not speak Hebrew. So, if one uses the word HAYAH for God they are okay. And if one speaking English uses the word God or Lord they are okay also.

Say for instance, one resides in Germany, he will use the German word for God. Which sounds different than the English word. Which sounds different than the Hebrew word but all the same refers to God or the Lord.

If one doesn't speak the Hebrew language and uses the word God or Lord instead of HAYAH, isn't it true they have shown no dishonor or disrespect by using their native tongue instead of Hebrew?

My conclusion. HAYAH is a Hebrew word. Not everyone speaks Hebrew. So, if one uses HAYAH when speaking of God they are well okay. And, if one uses the word God or Lord when referring to God, or however the word is pronounced in the native tongue, they are well okay.

Sorry about that. 😬
Back to your OP.
I stand convicted of correcting others while my own obedience was not up to scratch.
Thx for sharing.
