The cross is a stumbling block to the Jews because their doctrine is "gain is godliness" (prosperity gospel). They are under the law and it is written that cursed is he who hangs on a tree. To them the cross is the sign of disapproval from God. It was a stumbling block to Judas Iscariot because his doctrine was prosperity (a conquering Messiah). It was a stumbling block to Job's three friends because their doctrine was "gain is godliness".

To the Greeks it was foolishness because the world's wisdom says that the way up is up (self promotion). The cross is foolishness to people like Richard Dawkins because his doctrine is self promotion (theory of evolution).

The wisdom from above: the way up is down.

1 Corinthians 1:18 -
For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

James 4:10 -
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

Children though can serve as a mentor to their peers in some ways, especially with guidance from adults.

Mentorship, differentiated from giving somebody a general information or a lecture, is the way to pass skills and competence to our juniors. Unless, we ourselves is not qualified due to lack of diligence or wrongdoings.

But humans can be difficult to fathom, we often went where the angels fear to tread until we realize we and our loved ones are in a big trouble or until God in His mercy intervenes.

You lost me here. Would you be able to clarify this statement?

Mentorship is a learning modality in these settings:

1. Master to disciple
2. Expert to apprentice
3.Health care
4. Parent to child
5. For Christian maturity, where your mentor is... and the official manual is the bible.

Competence = knowledge, skills, ethics. Useless until utilized for a good purpose where it will produce a track record.

Compentence + track record = performance

Humans are in bondage to sin. We grope in the dark. The idiom "where angels tread to fear" talks about the careless persons rushing ahead into situations where the wiser and mighty avoids. It leads to to troubles and misery. We need God's intervention as we may find ourselves in these regrettable state through our recklessness and disobedience.

The wisdom from above is gained as we surrender ourselves to the Holy Spirit in our failings and victories.

Wisdom from above = cross aka full surrender aka humility (mainly in humbling/surrendering yourself before/to God) aka self denial. All basically the same thing.

Check out the parallel between James and 1 Corinthians. Especially James 3-4 and the first 2-3 chapters of 1 Corinthians. Looks like they are both addressing the same problems. Wisdom from beneath is selfish ambition/selfishness which resulted in carnal fighting and immaturity. Wisdom from above would have to be the opposite in which we may use any of the terms listed above because they are all the opposite of selfishness.

Carnality is compared to a baby by Paul. Think of a baby its self centered and needy. A baby takes but does not give. This is what it means to be carnal. Its basically selfishness. Spiritual then would have to be the opposite of that. More giving less taking/consumption or seeking the welfare of others/will of God instead of one's own agenda. One of the issues with the Corinthian church was that they were using their spiritual gifts to make themselves look good but the spiritual gifts are meant to be used for the benefit (edification) of others.

If you look at prosperity gospel and worldliness its basically carnality. God what wilt thou do for me? Not that I'm saying you have to go the other extreme of never getting blessings from God.

Btw JW has some excellent bible movies but this is probably a deadly hook to get people into their organization.

Acts 9:6 -
And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.

A baby acting like a baby is a pleasure, but adults acting like a baby is a tragedy.

A baby's self centeredness is innocent, but an adult's selfishness is a bondage. We need to diligently abide in the Lord to outgrow our carnality.
