I was listening to Tozer’s sermon series on 1 Peter and was surprised hear this from Tozer about Abraham Lincoln: " he was not much of a Christian, if he’s one at all.”
Did he elaborate on this elsewhere?
It’s not really important, I agree, but I use Lincoln’s quotes occasionally, and it would really help to understand the perspective from a great saint.
There is some historical debate as to whether Abraham Lincoln was truly a born again christian. One source (which I'm not sure is entirely trustworthy) is a reference in "50 Years In The Church Of Rome" by Charles Chiniquy. Charles says he personally knew Lincoln; he said Lincoln was not saved until after the battle of Gettysburg when he said "Yes, I do love Jesus".
