DIVINERS - How, Why, What, Really?

W
wsbg Jul 23, 2005

What would you make of a diviner (one who hears from spirits) in the present day? That is what if he or she told you something that could not possibly be coincidence. Are most diviners guided by evil spirits? It seems to me that the only trustworthy spirit on Earth is the Holy Spirit. So then, if I go to call upon a "psychic" who is not a player of tricks and actually predicts something that is utterly impossible to be spoken of without supernatural power am I hearing from a demon through the diviner? What should a Christian do for the diviner, how can someone help a person caught in this trouble? Do you have any evidence that true diviners actually exist, and if they exist why can they hear what others can not? Ie. Why them and not someone else?

You should buy and read this book Beautiful Side of Evilby Johanna Michaelsen It'll answer alot of your questions

Yes it is for real.Acts 16:[16] And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:[17] The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.[18] And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour. All diviners are guided by evil spirits. Divination is forbidden to the believer. However, God may give a believer, but is not limited to, a vision, or a dream, or dream interpretation, according to His will.If the diviner has a demon, and if you are right with God, you have authority over the demon. I think most are probably scam artists and just need our Biblical witness via the gospel message.Read about Saul in I Sam 28:[7] Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and inquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor.[11] Then said the woman, Whom shall I bring up unto thee? And he said, Bring me up Samuel.[12] And when the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice...Read these accounts in there entirety, they both deal with the subject.

dohzman: I've ordered The Beautiful Side of Evil along with The Bait of Satan and The Normal Christian Life. Thanks for the suggestion. I appreciate your input.letsgetbusy and others: But what if the person is a Christian, and has asked for the presence of the Holy Spirit, rebuked any and all evil spirits that might be affecting him... but still there is a reception of strange "truths" that seem to prove correct? For example, lets say a person is fully born-again, wants to talk to the Holy Spirit, but undoubtedly is not hearing from the Holy Spirit alone..Thanks.

I think you must be a little more detailed. If you are talking about voices, that is one thing. If you are seeing saints that have gone on before you, that is another. Please answer the following questions: What is this whoever hearing from, and what is the message?I John 4:1, "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world."

W

Well, actually neither. What if the case was simply sitting down relaxing and learning things from some type of presence. Non-verbal. For example, relaxing at home and learning something totally (without any doubt) new..:P"what is this whoever hearing from, and what is the message?"- I am not certain, but it did not come with any sense of comfort, or of any definitely distinctive orientation toward good or evil, and it seemed like I was only hearing a portion of the full story - like something was being hidden.- I don't wish to discuss the message, but it was important, and what was communicated happened shortly after. It was about a year ago.Sounds crazy huh? I sure think so. I just don't like the idea of demons using people to spread unproductive information. I also at first didn't want to say definitely whether it was the Holy Spirit or not as I could not tell, and didn't want to insult the spirit of grace if I assumed that it was evil when in fact it was good. I have decided that it was most likely some sort of evil spirit though, because nothing good came from the sharing of information.P.S. However, there was another instance when I learned something - actually very detailed about some people and I had the opportunity to share the good news with them. Further, I had a pretty good time in a strange city, knowing people I had never met. And, they were exactly as described. I also got an opportunity to get some well needed rest and relaxation from school. I even stayed at the same building they were at. I had some excellent coffee with them, learned French, and exchanged numbers with one of them. This resulted mostly in good. I believe that it was from a different spirit than the other.Yes, I fully know that it sounds utterly ridiculous. But it happened. :-? Quite frankly though it was rather scary. I'm not used to following spirits so literally. I also in no way, whether it was interesting or not, want to be a diviner. Some of the things in retrospect seemed like I was led to give misinformation (mistakingly false stuff) to get to where I was going. Its one of the strangest things that has ever happened to me. I later rebuked any and all spirits that weren't of God from acting in my life, and since then it has stopped.

Deuteronomy 13:1-5 "If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder, (2) and the sign or the wonder comes true, concerning which he spoke to you, saying, 'Let us go after other gods (whom you have not known) and let us serve them,' (3) you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams; for the LORD your God is testing you to find out if you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. (4) "You shall follow the LORD your God and fear Him; and you shall keep His commandments, listen to His voice, serve Him, and cling to Him. (5) "But that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has counseled rebellion against the LORD your God who brought you from the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of slavery, to seduce you from the way in which the LORD your God commanded you to walk. So you shall purge the evil from among you.

Well, that's not very encouraging. :P I am not sure how that applies to me though. It might have in my non-Christian days, but I definitely try not to lead people astray now. The part that says 'Let us go after other gods (whom you have not known) and let us serve them' quite simply does not apply to me. At the same time though I in no way say that I'm a prophet. A dreamer of dreams perhaps. I firmly stand upon the truth that:There is only one God, presented in three persons. That people should only follow the God of Abraham, who's head person is called the great "I am".That the Holy Bible is the inerrant word of God inspired by the Holy SpiritThat whosoever believes in the Christ, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of the only true God, shall be saved (and from my understanding of the context also follows his leading - ie. stops willful sin)That without salvation there is no hope of eternal life as all have sinned and come short of the glory of GodThat there is but one saviour, one Christ, and noone comes to the Father but through Christ Jesus the LordThat there is a real Heaven and HellFurther, that you may know that I am not someone trying to lead others astray I confess Jesus Christ is my Lord and that I believe in His word, and in the word of Him who sent the Lord Jesus Christ, and that Jesus Christ came to Earth in the flesh. So, back to the topic at hand: have I been led by an evil spirit or the Holy Spirit - how can I tell for certain? I do not think that I was led astray from Christ by what I received. At the same time though I do not believe all that I received was productive (or clearly beneficial).

What you describe may have been 'wrong' but, you learned from the experience and you prayed what you felt was appropriate and you say you are in a better place, now. Discerning the voice of God, promptings, leadings and His guidance is, to some extent, a matter of practise and practice. If God needs to use you on some strange missions, perhaps your availability to hear and obey, is all you need to be concerned about. You may be hoping for more information than you need to accomplish it. Often God asks for our obedience without entrusting us with the whole scenario. There are reasons for this, sometimes our immaturity. Sometimes to test whether we will obey for no other reason than He has asked us to. (Of course He has a plan, but, we don't need to know His side of things to complete our side of them.) Here is one of my favourite quotes.'The idea is not that we do work for God, but that we are so loyal to Him that He can do His work through us - "I reckon on you for extreme service, with no complaining on your part and no explanation on Mine." God wants to use us as He used His own Son.' Oswald Chambers (December 18th)

Sometimes, country preachers, though not very eloquent, can give quotes that can hit the mark in a way that an educated pastor couldn't. My buddy's old preacher said this:"If it's spooky, it's probably not of God."There are more of these if anyone's interested.

jeremyhulsey Jul 27, 2005

Well, that's not very encouraging. :P I am not sure how that applies to me though. It wasn't aimed at you but it would apply to the person you're listening to. But your statement I've quoted begs the question, "Are you the one doing the divining?"

W
wsbg Jul 28, 2005

Hulsey: Yes, I have in the past. But am not now. Further, I didn't realize it was divination as I couldn't tell who the spirit was.Letsgetbusy: Your quote "If it's spooky, it's probably not of God" hits the spot. I think that sums it up. Thanks. I am interested in more of these quotes.Dorcas: Interesting..

letsgetbusy and others: But what if the person is a Christian, and has asked for the presence of the Holy Spirit, rebuked any and all evil spirits that might be affecting him... but still there is a reception of strange "truths" that seem to prove correct? For example, lets say a person is fully born-again, wants to talk to the Holy Spirit, but undoubtedly is not hearing from the Holy Spirit alone..To start off I am from Toronto, Canada also brother. This is a tremendous question! I do hear the sincerity in your posts. I would not feel deluded or misdirected. But these are very dangerous areas we are talking about and I believe the safest place to be is in the word of God. If you are born again (from above) and have the Spirit of Christ in you then you will not be led astray if you hold to Him that is your life. We are complete in Christ and it is by grace in this assurance then we can walk by faith and not by sight and allow the Spirit of God to direct our paths. Keeping our hearts meditating on the word of the Lord and allowing his word to dwell in us richly that we may know the perfect and pleasing will of God. God's primary method of directing and guiding us is in His word that is given to us. There have been countless people that have been led astray hearing from spirits or even angels. God speaks to us by His Son. Hebrews 1:1-2.This is a worthy topic to share experiences on and continue to discuss. It is great to see people hungering for the truth and real reality in the experience of God.

letsgetbusy Jul 28, 2005

Remember that we walk by faith, and faith is the hope of things unseen. So we don't have to have a audial or visual experience to know God. "blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed."Paul saw Jesus, but we have 66 inspired books. That's how we learn about Him on whom we believe. So 1)gird about your loins with truth, 2)put on the helmet of salvation, 3)the breastplate of righteousness, 4)have your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel, and 5)above all carry the shield of faith that it quench the fiery darts of the enemy, 6)draw the sword of the Spirit, and 7)pray with all you've got that the Lord will guide you in all truth.

If I were experiencing these things. I would ,yes pray about it myself. I would then ask the Pastor of the Church and elders for prayer, after First speaking to the Pastor of the Church. It is however a very serious matter and should be taken to the church. I am sure they would help in this matter.ellie

Greg stated: "This is a worthy topic to share experiences on and continue to discuss." I'm somewhat reluctant to do so, but it definately fits here. When I was a Sophomore in College, in 1977, I had a vision come upon me. I was a practicing member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church at the time (the religion I grew up in.)This vision predicted three things: 1) that I would be divorced 2) that I would become an alcoholic, and 3) that after these transpired, something very good would happen in my life.I rejected this as a strange idea in my head and refused to believe these things would transpire. In 1990 I got married to a woman I loved. But over the years she became increasingly abusive, emotionally, verbally, and physically. It just got worse and worse. went to counseling and she told a bunch of lies to the counselor. (Lots of other really bad stuff happened that I will spare you of.) Through my adult life I had been an occasional beer drinker with no real problems with it. But as the abuse increased, my drinking increased and eventually it became a problem. After getting divorced in 2001 (about as nasty as it can get, but with no children involved) the drinking became much worse and I sank into deep depression. After years of laboring with it, I have put alcohol away for some time now and am feeling much better. I have a good notion of what the "good" thing is, but can't share it now. What I get from all of this is that the Holy Spirit warned me back in college about what would transpire in my future (struggle as I may against it) and that I should not lose heart and faith in this process; that in the end the Spirit would take care of me if I remained in the faith. At the time of my vision, though, I refused to accept that the Lord would put such terrible things upon me needlessly. and looking back I still wonder, Why did I have to go through all that when I was already a believer? I think the answer is that adversity and the process of going through a revelation fulfilled has made me stronger in the faith.I could have dismissed the vision as being not of God, but from an evil spirit. But that would have been a terrible mistake. My point is that some visions that seem out of line may indeed be from the Lord.Bubbaguy

I told one of my pastors about what was going on, describing the situation in 3rd person (saying "someone I know.." had such and such an experience). I slowly told him about some of the stuff and he turned a bit pale and suggested that I don't talk to this friend of mine (myself) again. That I can not be sure what "he" [I] is into and how he came about having some of this knowledge. Shortly after this I told my pastor that the person I was talking about was myself, and that I made assurance that I was not a criminal or deluded and told him how I would make sure that I was not deluded by telling other people what my mind was receiving before the stuff happened. This would make it absolutely certain that the stuff was not only foreknown by myself, but by others. This gave my pastor the assurance that what I was saying was definitely predicted ahead of time, and verifyable, but it didn't give him any peace about what I was saying. He still gave me the thousand mile stare, like I was a witch or something. Frankly, I don't blame him. I probably would have done the same to someone else who had told me such a bizzare story. He meant well, but I suppose he was not prepared for what I had to say.ellie: I plan on applying your suggestion. I'm not sure how to approach the church with it though. It has been about a year since my last spiritual incident happened, and the pastor I first shared my problems with has since moved away. >SECONDARY EDIT: P.S. Actually I forgot about one>time that happened rather recently around January>of 2005, I had another sort of broadcast >received. I didn't share this one with anyone as >I was trying to get the spirit to flee from me by >staying as close to Christ as I could.Honestly, I get upset thinking about what happened. I think to myself first of all "That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. No one will believe you and even if they do it is still totally ridiculous - you will look like a fool or a nut." Later I think, "will my sharing of this be beneficial to me or others?" It seems that I should only talk about the basics of it, not the specifics as it wouldn't bring any benefit to fixing the problem. It would just get some people excited about the spirit world and perhaps draw people of weak or no faith closer to evil spirits.bubbaguy: I have been thinking about your post. But I can't be sure that such a vision would be from God. In the Bible, when God gave visions to people of comming troubles he seems to usually use it as a "this will happen unless you change your ways" message. That is to say, how is it productive to know about failures ahead of time and not be helped to avoid them? My mind then wanders to thinking of Peter just before he was to betray Jesus three times. He was given a warning that it was going to happen and yet it was not something that was overcome. I'm not saying that you are necessarily mistaken. These things are just hard to discern whether they have any benefit, and thus are of God or not.I will talk to my pastor about it. Please pray for me. Thanks, it's appreciated.
