"And the tables were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, graven upon the tables. . . he saw the calf, and the dancing: And Moses anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount.. . . And the Lord said unto Moses, Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first: and I will write upon these tables the words that were in the first tables, which thou brakest." Exodus32:15 - 34:1
Two points here for God to speak to us: 1. God's work; 2. God's word. A true Christian is ever a lover of God's word, and God's work. They know that they work hand in hand for God's kingdom come and His will to be done. Yet, we see in this passage that Moses destroyed the work of God, the tables due to his anger at the peoples sins. The next time God called for him to come up to Him, he made Moses do the work of God, to make the tables, and God would write the Word of God upon it. A very unique unfolding here. When God says, 'You do My work for My word.' Herein is the call of the Christian and the church to set forth to speak, preach, teach and share God's word for His work to be done.
God's work, done with God's word is the highest work done. Much like creation in Genesis, there was no men to put their filthy paws upon it to destroy it or corrupt it. Humanism is our greatest enemy today within the church. We always have to put our hands upon God's glory with our methods, means and madness. But there are many, that understand this truth and having heard and known of real revivals in days gone by, we seek the highest form of Christianity today, God's manifest Presence. Real revival, is the purest point of God's work with God's word that we can experience on this earth. It is as close to this comparison of Moses and God that we can experience.
Largely, for the Christian world, revival is unknown and unsought. Always with the latest gidgets and gadgets to advance God's work, they largely fail to seek God Himself alone. When all we really need is God. Is He alone, not sufficient enough? Yes, He is. And it is our responsibility in this most troubled hour to seek and find Him like never before. God says, "I sought for man. . . " to do My work and know and proclaim My word. Are you one that God can find seeking and finding Him? Are you willing to wait upon Him to do His work and His word through HIs will? Or are you impatient and unwilling to wait upon the Lord, and come up and rise up to do something.
What a Divine moment! God's work of the table, and God's finger to pen God's word to God's people for God's purpose. Brethren, the church is God's work, saved by God's word, to do God's work in God's will and ways. Count it all joy to be a part of this great work of God. Yield yourself to God's word to be the vessel of honor that God's work can be done through you and in you for His glory. Far too many do not operate according to God's word and thus God's work is 'given an occasion against Him'. Be not one of these, but yield to God. And in this time of our greatest need for God to work, let us do it His way, according to His word. God changes not, His will, ways, work and word have not changed. The latest fads and fashions will avail nothing, we need God's work and word to be done in souls, minds and hearts.
For our greatest battle is for the minds and hearts of men. True salvation of the soul is done by God's work of grace and redemption, upon them hearing of God's word proclaimed and taught 'rightly dividing the Word for His honor and glory. 'Godly sorrow unto repentance' is what I pray for lost souls; genuine salvation of death to self, life to Christ and obedience for all our days is what I pray. For I have seen and heard of far too many that had not repentance, let alone godly sorrow unto it. And far too many made a decision but never a yieldedness. And these souls have since left the church, left their decision and now live for the world and for self. God's work, God's word produces, what Duncan Campbell said of the Hebrides revival, of those souls that came to Christ, 'we know nothing of backsliding'. Ah, brethren, is this not the better way. Let us seek God's work, God's word, God's way.
Time is an issue my brethren. Things are happening rapidly, and I know not how all this will work out in these last hours. A world to still be reached; nations and people need the Gospel. The church largely lethargic and lazy toward His kingdom come and will be done. WE need His power and Presence to do His work. He will help us, when we do it rightly. Be ever a lover of His word and know it and read it and study it, for therein is found His will and ways of doing His work. The combination is true. Lord, Thy will be done!
