Matthew Henry and others of his era were convinced the papacy was the Antichrist, Babylon, etc. I am about 85% convinced. If you read his commentary on Revelation almost everything evil is applied to the RC church.

Here is well-written opposing view by Joel Richardson. The Islamic Antichrist.
We, in America, have a western viewpoint that landlocks us from the truth of the culture of the Bible. (If that makes sense.) I have learned so much from Joel Richardson and Dalton Thomas (who lives in the Golan Heights in Israel), and has first hand knowledge of the Middle East.
