The Jesus Movement and the House Ministries
One of the untold stories of the Jesus Movement of the 1960s and 70s, is how the Christian Communal House Ministries with Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa resulted in so many transformed lives. These believers then went on to impact the world for Jesus Christ.

I grew up down the street from the place where all this happened. Of course it was over 30 years since it happened but never realized it until later in my life. When I heard for the first time about a great move of God that happened right down the street from where I live, I was so moved. I could not believe it at first, but the prove was all there. Many people who experience this move of God are still there at the same location. And many have ben sent. It was so encouraging to learn about this and the founding of Calvary Chapel.

Thank you Bother Fred for sharing this video. I seldom see anyone mentioning the "Jesus Movement” anymore since (Bear) Brother Blaine’s passing.

I could share a lot about the Jesus Movement and the House Churches, because our old home became a meeting place where young people would gather for fellowship and testimony. The Maranatha House was founded in our city in which young married couples lived in a large old home in the Historic part of the city for fellowship, bible study, and prayer. Many of these young people were called to the ministry. Many were saved by their bold witness on the streets of the city. It was a very exciting time to be alive.

I remember those days well. We never liked the saying well now all those young people have decided to become "Jesus Freaks." We knew something deeply profound had happened to us instead of just following the latest fad. Prayer meetings in homes sprang up everywhere. The hunger for the Word was insatible almost. If even two or three got together God would do something. They were not shallow days at all.

I wonder who were the prayer warriors, who tarried before the revival. I saw the vid, it stirred in me great longings for a move of God.

I am posting an excellent article on the origins of the "Jesus Movement.” and the influence it had on society.

The Jesus Movement was a move of the Holy Spirit among the youths that were full of rebellion much like what we are seeing today. A heaven sent revival will not only be a blessing to the Church but will also have a positive effect on our culture.

I loved the exchange described when hippies started showing up at Calvary Chapel. It went something like this:

Calvary Chapel elders: We can't have these barefoot hippies coming in here and soiling the carpet.

Chuck Smith: Well then, let's rip up the carpet!

That is so like the spirit of Jesus to put human lives above things.
