TEXT: ISAIAH 55:10-11

'For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:/So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.'

For all who no longer see power and effect in the word of God, I desire to ask you this question: When rain and snow come from heaven, do they return thither, without watering the earth, thereby giving seed to the sowers, and bread to the eaters? Surely, the universal answer to this question is no! The ancient word is still changing men; infusing grace into the crude; raising the dead; making the dead to awake and fellowship with the living; ending war and ancient quarrels amongst Nations: the word of God shall ever prevail among men as the flood of Noah increased and prevailed over everything thing living, in whose nostril was breath of life. As all hills and mountains were swallowed up by Noah's flood, so shall every word out of the mouth of God be. We stand in need of constant and fervent prayer to God for the prevalence of His word upon our lives. As for God, He sees nothing impossible with His word: when He saddles His word with any task, He deems same already done; He expects news of accomplishment from every word spoken by Him. Friends, if the copy of the Bible has found a way into your hands, take it that the whole counsel of God is now at your disposal: how favoured are you therefore! God has sent His word to you if the copy of the Bible is in your hand; and He intends to be to you what He says He will be to you therein. He would have heaven and earth melt away as wax before the fire, than a single jot of His word knows a defeat. Shall we then not put the same estemate that God puts on His word? Why should we hold a thing weak, which God considers all powerful? As sure as the rain and snow that come to the earth make it to produce bread for humanity, so also the word of God, doubtlessly, accomplishes great things in the heart of man! Let us conclude once and for all: that God's word would not fail with us, in us and by us. Amen
