Lord, Lord, pray open to us;
Let us in; unbolt thy door:
Say not to us this ill syllabus--
'I know you not; knock no more!'
We crossed the sea and the wave;
Through wilderness thick,
Have we come: feat hard and grave:
Oh be not to us a wall of brick!
If thou shut thy door on us,
Ready are we to expire presently,
Nay, lifelessness will repercuss:
Here at thy door'll we wait eagerly!
We weep; we cry; we moan,
Not for ease and riches untold,
Before thy glorious mighty throne--
That thou mayest to us thy face unfold!
