TEXT: JAMES 1:14-15
''But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed./Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death''
Every man gravitates or is drawn toward the object of his desire--which might be positive or negative. A man's bent in life forms what come his way in life. Both God and the Devil, finds a man's desire as a holdfast for their operation; desires are tacit beckoning gesture from man to God or satan to carry out their works in him. No man can be tempted with what he does not have desire for. Our desires invites the nature of temptation that comes to us. When the tempter is unclear about what our desires are, he is left without any assistance to proceed against us; so, our enemy, Satan, ever before he tempts us, labours to discover the bent, panting and proclivity of our hearts; he carefully enquires into our present needs and yearnings; he observes our current sentiments and what currently occupies our hearts and discourses, upon his finding, proceeds to tempt us. In Matt. 4, Satan tempts our Lord with matter of bread, when he observes that our Lord has ended His his forty days fast, and therefore hungry. He tempts us with money when he gets wind of our need thereof; he tempts a woman to adultery when he observes that her husband no longer attracts her: but rather another seems to be more caring than her's. Every man must needs take heed to his desire, for thereby issues of life and death are determined. All serious student of The Holy Scripture, would agree that: a man's present musing or contemplation could be seen and known by the temptation that confront him at the moment. When needs arrive a man's life, he needs get himself ready for the tempter. From both scriptures and experiences, we can boldly say that our needs come with the tempter on their heels, as Jacob took hold of Esau's heel during their birth. Brothers, guard your heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life. Kill that sinful desire before it conspires with satan to expire you.
