JESUS, THE SIN-BEARER

TEXT: JOHN 1:29

'The next day John sees Jesus coming to him, and said, Behold the Lamb of God, which takes away the sin of the world.'

No more can a man do about his sins than to shift it on Jesus: He is the only sin-bearer appointed by God: to go about with the burden of sin, seeking relief therefrom by any other means, argues a contempt on the finished work of redemption. Sin cannot neither be cried, sang nor hymned away; only Christ can relieve us of the burden thereof. Many there are, who when they find sin in their bosoms, take war to the gate of their sins, intending to kill and silence the voice of guilt by abstinence and self-torture, as if God's appointed way out of sin is not effective. To run to any other pool for the forgiveness of sin aside that fountain from Jesus' vein, is like expecting to feast in the house of a poor beggar. No sin is too horrible that the blood of Jesus cannot take away. The inhabitants of earth are bent down with the load of sin; disquieted by the nagging testimony of conscience: only Christ can relieve them. Forgiveness of sin, is the first blessing, yea, the fountain of all blessings and captain over the host of heavenly bounties. It is mercy to find the blessing of forgiveness before other blessings. The most arresting and taking voice from God, is: 'Thy sins, which are many, are forgiven thee!' Let us go tell men that there is a free gift of forgiveness in Christ Jesus. Behold the Lamb of God, who takes our sin away
