''Every word of God is tested; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him. Do not add to His words Or He will reprove you, and you will be proved a liar.''
"Whatever I command you, you shall be careful to do; you shall not add to nor take away from it.''
God takes it not a little dishonour, whenever His word is altered by any: forasmuch as God sees His word not different from Himself, He considers that man a former and proponent of another gods, who adds and removes from His word,---- be it by ignorance or knowingly. All that God, in His divine wisdom and counsel, would have man know about Him during his earthly pilgrimage, are discoverable in His word: hence, the wresting or corrupting of His word, leaves men with a wrong notion of Him! Those who add to or subtract from God's word, have intentions of making to themselves a God of their own conjuring,---- man, in his natural element, would have a God that is all mercy, without justice; a God for the actualisation of his dreams and lusts; a God that exists just to serve his turns, nay, one that is at his beck and calls. Hence, he silently labours to wrest the word of Jehovah, therefore creating a god that romances his corrupt desires. There is a kind of idolatry in the practices of adding and taking away from the word of God, considering that this act itself, bespeaks the creation of another God: for he who adds or takes away from God's word, advances another god! Who trades in lies, nay, who is a liar, but he that adds or takes away from God's word? Half truth and an exaggerated verity, are all one and same big lie before God! He walks safely and purely, who takes pain to not add to or takes away from the word of God. God's word is not adorned or honoured by adding shines thereto, but by stating it accurately; holding it as a perfect copy worthy of our writing after! Consulting with learned brothers over an unclear portion of scripture, would verily cure us of our proneness to the malady of wresting scripture to the undoing of our spiritual welfare and that of others. He who has never consulted with any, is a proud man; and to be dreaded by any who loves his soul, in that all that such fellow knows, have never been scrutinized by another: for by the mouth of two or three witnesses, every case is deemed established. It is enough for all to leave the word of God as they see it: our only duty is to read, practice and teach it; adding nothing and dreading to take even a jot away therefrom.
