Oh, Christ dear, armed thy word,
May it speed in our world,
As in the times and days of old;
Thawing hearts hard and cold!
Like a sword sharp and quick,
Grant that thy word may prick
Conscience unto regeneration,
Ever moving souls on!
Would man-made wisdom save?
Earth's princes only rave
On things that are empty and vain,
Possessing no real gain!
Thou, O dear mighty King,
Pray, thy own servants swing
Into the teaching of thy law,
Holding all in truth's claw!
Earth and heaven shall pass ---
Her glory is as grass;
As flower her beauty shall wane:
But the word shall remain.
Amen!
