Hallowed leaves --holy pages,
Abiding as rules for all ages:
With bended knees; eyes watery,
And fingers shaking, we flip thee;

Open to us! this is our cry and plea!

Conductors of godly images;
Paste thyself on our marred faces;
Convey into us truths and graces!

Silos of the wisdom of all sages;
Counselors to kings and the wisest:
At thy foot all dark sayings must rest!

In this dying vale, a guide and gauges;
A final judge and arbiter, hereafter:
Oh, convey us in peace thither!
