Jim Cymbala, pastor of Brooklyn Tabenacle, shared how years ago a homeless man walked into his church. He said, "He came up to the front. The odor that he carried was so bad that I had to turn my head away from him to talk to him. I thought he wanted money so I reached in to my pocket and pulled out some. The homeless man said to me, ‘ no I don’t want your money. I want this Jesus you’re talking about.’"
Pastor Cymbala said that immediately he was convicted of the fact that he was trying to give him money just to get rid of him and he started weeping. The homeless man knew something was happening and fell onto his chest and they embraced. God spoke to Pastor Cymbala and said " If you can’t embrace this smell, I can’t use you. Because the whole world smells like this to me and I still sent my son”. Shew, I think that would convict anybody!
GOD DOESN’T LOVE YOU OR ME BECAUSE WE ARE ATTRACTIVE, RICH, INTELLIGENT, OR SMELL GOOD.
He loves us because He is love.
I pray that God will fill His people with that kind of love. That we would not prefer one above another because of how we think they might enrich our lives or enrich our churches. But we would love with God’s perfect love.
